National Money Museum, Maputo Province, Mozambique

Small, but interesting

Fortunately there was an employee at the museum who spoke excellent English and explained all exhibits. The signs itself are in Portuguese only. Interesting and fun to learn about the history of money.

    Restored Old Portuguese House
Maputo is a town of great architecture but the body of it is 20th Century Aer Deco and Art Moderne. I only saw this building from the outside but it represents one of the few remaining early buildings from Maputo's Colonial Portuguese history. This and the forts are really the only pre-19th Century buildings I saw. I guess Mozambique Island has the very early architecture. Anyway this building should be visited by architecture buffs.

    Above expectations
There is no reason to go to Maputo to see this museum, but if you are in the area it is worth to spend 45 minutes in this Museum. Besides the old coins and banknotes from Mozambique and the world, it is interesting to see one of the oldest buildings from Maputo from the inside.
