- 5.0 Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d'Assisi (9.407 reviews)
-Home of St. Francis of Assisi
Spent 1-2 hours Churches & Cathedrals
We toured the Basilica with a local guide who partially focused on art history. We began in the lower church and visited the crypt of St. Francis. Our guide then described the different styles of painting and the various painters who had adorned the churches. It was interesting to see the differences that come with age. A young version of an artist had painted in the upper church, then returned years later to repaint parts of the lower church. His growth as an artist is obvious. The Franciscan monks are very strict - no photos inside. See more..

-Don't Just See hilltop Assisi, Start Here Francis Story Began
Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM, 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums
I'd visited the Basilica in the main hill town of Assisi before, but having since read the St. Francis story, it was good to see here, the little church where he began. You have the think Francis would not approve of the vast church they propped over his small chapel, but it's rather a unique site to see. Having seen dozens of cathedrals, this one will really stick with me. Seeing the many Franciscan monks in their habits and the inside full of pilgrims gave a real sense of awe to the place. Don't just go up the hill to see the Basilica, definitely stop here as well. See more..
- 5.0 Piana di Castelluccio di Norcia (1.296 reviews)
-Remote & Beautiful Part of Italy But Check Timing to See Flowers in Bloom
Parks • Valleys
There is one tip and one tip only, get your timing right if you want to see the flowers in bloom. Disappointingly, we didn’t get it right and the wild flowers were not in bloom yet. In photographs we’d seen before going, it looked stunning. The Castelluccio mountain-top plains are transformed into Monet-like fields of colour. However May is probably not the best time to go and, in hindsight, we should have found a way to check beforehand. Disappointing as it was, the scenery was still stunning. It is a very beautiful part of the world, set within the Monti Sibillini National Park. See more..

Orvieto's Duomo is already stunning enough and then on a side chapel inside the intensity goes up a notch, with every bit of the chapel covered in work by Renaissance masters from Fra Angelico to Signorelli. You have to see the Cappella di San Brizio if Renaissance art is your thing, the storytelling is greatly served by the technical artistry of its painters. You can almost follow the entire Doomsday story page by page on the walls without needing to know any language. See more..

For over eight centuries "Decugnano" has been used to indicate the name of the land of the estate. The soil rich in fossils, oysters and shells, the micro climate and a wide temperature range are all factors particularly suitable for wine growing. Beside a very modern cellar, the visitor has the possibility to admire the Etruscan caves, today utilized for the production of the sparkling wine "spumante" and to mature certain wines in barrels. Within spectacular scenery, the Estate organizes guided tours to their cellars followed by wine tasting and local delicacies. WE ARE OPEN! Saturday & Sunday See more..

- 4.5 Cascata delle Marmore (6.227 reviews)
-A wonderful day among nature, trekking and lots and lots of water
Spent 1-2 hours Waterfalls
For ten euros (plus any parking money) you will have access to 6 routes (numbered from 1 to 6). I recommend routes 1 to 4 (which are those that give a better view of the waterfall from all possible sides). The other trails stray a bit from the waterfall and are mainly isolated treks. I strongly suggest to bring a waterproof cape but, if you forgot it, it will be possible to buy one at the shop near the lake. I suggest the visit to the lovers' balcony, but it's better to book it before. See more..

-Incredible Art & History
Churches & Cathedrals
Construction of the Duomo begun around 1175 and completed in 1227. The huge Filipo Lippi fresco alone will blow you away! Lippi’s tomb is here (1469). Also, there is an authentic letter written from St. Francis of Assisi in this church! There’s a gift from Frederick Barbarossa in this church to the town of Spoleto. A golden picture of the Virgin Mary from the 11th century! The original floor is here, from 1207!! I’m exclamation-pointing everything because I just get so psyched about the incredible amount of gorgeous, medieval art in this place. The mosaic on the outside front of the church is from 1207, Christ surrounded by John the Baptist and his mother. Jesus is holding open a Bible to John 8:12. The bells ring out form the 12th century bell tower, it’s pure magic! Free, go. See more..
- 4.5 Rocca Paolina (2.138 reviews)
-Better drop breadcrumbs in this maze
Castles
You enter by the front of the Sina Brufani hotel and take an escalator down into this ancient city. It’s easy to get turned around in this maze of streets. Great way to get out of the heat on a hot day. See more..
- 4.5 Orvieto Underground (2.039 reviews)
-Interesting, historical (and cool) tour!
Caverns & Caves
This is a must-do activity in Orvieto! Reservations highly recommended in advance. We arrived for our 12:30 English tour and heard them offer the next tour at 3 or 4:30. On a hot June day, the cool caves were the perfect place to be! The history was interesting and kudos to our guide who was able to get past the two loud, crying babies to deliver a very professional, informative tour! Be prepared for some stair climbing up and down, narrow passageways and sandy floors. An interesting historical tour and well worth the one hour time in Orvieto! See more..

We went there in September 2016. we were obliged to sleep in Cascia beacuse we didn't know that no bus to go back to Rome that date. suddenly, we met a great old man who possesses a small Hotel directly in fron of the church where the body of my beloved Saint Rita is . He's name is Fransisco . He helped us in everything ! he guided us in Cascia and in Roccaporena, her village. We went to the mountain at night where Saint Rita used to pray . We were only two persons in a place where nobody was there at night. but Saint Rita were with us . we prayed for two hours . and Franssisco, this man sent by Saint Rita, picked us from Rocca Porena by his car and take us to the hotel. the second day we assited to the Holy Mess in Casica . and he took us to Rocca Porena Again to see her House. than he took us by his car also to Saint Veronica Guiliany, The Majesty of Holiness. We have never met this man before. without his help and his care we could be lost ! I will go back again to see you Rita .... I asked her to save my father I aksed Saint Veronica also. And they did it ! when I came back to Lebanon, my country, the medical reports were very good and he did a high progress after a disappointment ! Oh God Thank you ! See more..
- 4.5 City Centre (1.004 reviews)
-Ancient Walled City
Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Neighborhoods • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Perugia’s ancient walled hilltop city is a delight to explore. It’s relatively compact although there are some steep up/down sections that may prove challenging. There are churches, museums, old palaces, a Roman aqueduct (part of which can be walked), beautiful buildings dating back many hundreds of years, an Estrucan well, an international university, a fabulous subterranean city, restaurants, cafes and much more. Simply wandering the narrow cobbled lanes are the best way to explore and enjoy the ancient atmosphere. Behind some of the buildings located on Piazza Matteotti are public terraces that offer sweeping views of the Umbrian countryside. The best part...no crowds! Just locals and students going about their daily routines. An authentic slice of life in Umbria. See more..

Chubbio is a nice medieval town. A lot of old buildings and small streets are well preserved. From one stairs to another you climb up to the Basilica of Sant'Ubaldo. You can also take the elevator partly. And finally by 'hanging in a cage on a cable' :-) The Basilica is quite sober, but worth visiting for the shrine of St. Ubaldo. And it's quiet up there.
