  4. 4.5 Borgo Medievale di Termoli (654 reviews)
    - Small - but quite nice
    Neighborhoods • Historic Walking Areas
    Borgo Medievale di Termoli image
Italy is full of wonderful old towns. We've seen many and always like to find some new Centro Storicos or Borgo Anticos. Compared to many other towns, Termoli has a quite small old center. The location is quite beautiful though. Sitting on top of a hill, overlooking the ocean. You can walk all around the historic center, all with sea and port views. Inside the old center there is honestly not that much to see and do. Not just because of Corona. There are just not that many shops or restaurants. Only a handful. It was nice to walk around the small area anyways. But compared to other Historic Center it's quite a quick walk. Still, landmarks like the Castello Svevo with the Belvedere della Torretta, the Cathedral of Saint Mary 'della Purificazione and the Piazza Duomo makes the visit worth a drive. Don't miss out on the new part of town. The Corso Nazionale is a nice walking and shopping street. Surely worth a visit. See more..

    Cattedrale di Termoli image
This was the venue for our daughter's and now son-in-law's wedding mass. The temperatures outside were very high and although the church was a little hot with all the people, it was very cool inside by comparison. Beautiful service, wonderful occasion in this central venue of the old city. The atmosphere was quite spectacular. We had visited the cathedral beforehand and the history associated with it was very interesting. See more..
  8. 4.5 Area Archeologica di Saepinum (333 reviews)
    - A wide open-air historical stratification (a sort of roman Paestum)
    Monday: Ancient Ruins
    Area Archeologica di Saepinum image
Great fascinating archaeological jewel and, at the same time, of significant interest for scholars. Not well known, unfortunately, to the general public and not yet complete in the excavation work, due to the extension of the site, it appears as an open-air historical stratification. The visit to the site is free and the archaeological staff of the small but precious museum (the latter on payment of an economic ticket) is of refined preparation and extreme willingness to lead visitors in the historical/urban understanding of the plant. 16. 4.5 Antiquarium di Saepinum-Altilia (116 reviews)
    - Up Close In A Roman Town
    Ancient Ruins
    Antiquarium di Saepinum-Altilia image
We have been living in Rome for quite some time, so we are familiar with ancient ruins. But Saepinum(Sepino)-Altilia was special. Several items are very well preserved (see photos) and the scale of the place (and lack of crowds) gives you a sense of what it would have been like to live in such a place. The signage was very informative, all leading to a great experience. See more..

See more..
  20. 4.5 Museo dei Misteri (74 reviews)
    - Rare and evocative spectacle
    Monday: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums
    Museo dei Misteri image
While you can visit the "misteri" museum year round, the real attraction of the "misteri" in Campobasso is the annual procession which I had seen decades ago when I was very young. It is the largest and best attended feast in Campobasso. This year I was able to finally see again the procession on Sunday June 18 and also savour some street food and do some "bancarelle" shopping which are just two side-activities of this religious, popular and traditional procession. The procession of the "mysteries" is three centuries old and every year on Corpus Domini Sunday, good weather or bad weather, the procession comes out and parades through the main streets of Campobasso centre. Thirteen allegorical floats, transported by pallbearers with live characters:children, old people and adults transform themselves saints, angels and demons (the harnesses are hidden from the costumes) and seem suspended in the void. Each and every float is truly admirablle particularly on a sunny warm day. See more..
  21. 4.5 SANTUARIO MADONNA DEL CANNETO o MADONNA DI CANNETO (70 reviews)
    - Magnificent sanctuary

SANTUARIO MADONNA DEL CANNETO o MADONNA DI CANNETO image
This sanctuary features a beautiful church completely of stone and wood in the interior surrounded by magnificent gardens with tall trees close to the Trigno River and on the site of an ancient Roman villa. The old Benedictine monks' monastery on the site reopened in 1935 after extensive restoration work. The church is in romanic style with 3 naves. The Romanesque portal is amazing and in the interior, there is a unique pulpit surmounted on three arches. There is on-site ample parking, clean washrooms, a large picnic area, and close-by a café-snack bar. This place is a must visit in a tour of Molise. See more..

    - A wonderful day at a stunning beach in Termoli
    Beaches
    Lido Panfilo image
We had an incredible day in Termoli at Lido Panfilo - the staff are so friendly and always have a smile. The beach is clean, the sunbeds are comfortable and the sea is just beautiful. You get an incredible view of the town centre (which is just a 5min walk away) and the lido also has a bar with delicious food and a huge selection of drinks. It's also really clean with great facilities including a bar area and toilets and showers. What made it especially memorable was how kind Angelo and all the staff are. We live in Campania and drove over for the day as it was my dad's birthday and what a great day out it was. We also brought our dog Lola to the beach for the first time and she loved relaxing in the shade with us. We can't wait to return and it was really easy to book a spot on WhatsApp (we got the number on their website). Thank you for everything Lido Panfilo and see you soon! See more..
  24. 4.5 Agnone (62 reviews)
    - Top secret location, the jewel of Molise!
    Historic Sites
    Agnone image
We had an amazing day in Agnone, travelled from Bomba in Abruzzo through some spectacular mountainous countryside. The area is of outstanding natural beauty with valleys, mountains and waterfalls. The town is very old with history stretching back thousands of years, looks like it was very rich / important in old days judging by the amount of churches. Lots of artisan shops, nice cafes and the worlds oldest bell foundry operated by same Marinelli family for 1000 years! Will visit again, lovely town! See more..

  26. 4.5 Teatro Tempio Sannita (58 reviews)
    - Great Roman site in the middle of the Apennines
    Ancient Ruins
    Teatro Tempio Sannita image
Located at 1000 metres above sea level, this Roman theatre (built around 3rd century BC), is a haven of peace in the middle of the Apennines! The place is interesting for its location and the magnificent landscape that you see from there. They are still discovering new places in this archeological site (for ex: a bathhouse) and will be probably better in the next few years. In August, there are also plays and concerts taking place just at sunset. Very beautiful events! The entry is ard 2.50 Euros. I heard they were also going to open an Archeological Museum in the nearby village of Pietrabbondante. The Samnites were a strong tribe that resisted the Romans for long and the Molisani (inhabitants of Molise) are very proud to be descendants of such a powerful people. Worth a visit if you are planning to tour Molise, one of the most unspoiled and authentic regions of Italy. See more..

What a hidden gem this fantastic museum is. Located in downtown Isernia, this museum has something for everyone. It is extremely well laid out and has plenty of information to inform & entertain. Our guide, Stefano, was SO knowledgeable and his English was exceptional. I lived in Isernia back in the '90s but never knew how important it was, especially during the war. I cannot recommend a visit here strongly enough, go, you will not be disappointed! See more..
