   We left our accommodation in Curup around 9.00 AM and after a 35 minute drive into the countryside we reached their coffee farm. Our guide briefed us on the process of growing coffee and how do identify coffee cherries ripe for harvest (they are dark red). Of course this would not be complete without drinking some of the freshly brewed coffee made from their own coffee beans. Then we headed out to enjoy a relaxing time chatting whilst picking the fruit. We had a traditional nasi bungkus (rice pack) for lunch with delicious grilled chicken followed by more coffee!     I went to Tikus Island, also called Mouse Island for one day during my trip to Bengkulu in August 2018. The trip takes between 45 minutes to a couple of hours depending on the boat that you take to get there. I went on a small fishing boat, surely not my first choice, but I was hindered by not knowing the language and not knowing where to go to rent a boat, so it was left to my local friends who are far more daring than I in options. In any case, it is a small island with plenty of sun shade from trees and palms. There are a few local vendors selling some food and I believe bottled water however, we brought all our food and water for the day. There are two distinct sides to the island, the snorkeling side and the swimming side. Either side is great and you will surely enjoy a really nice day here. It is a sharp contrast with the beaches in Bengkulu which are not swimming beaches. It was a great experience, my only issue was the small boat certainly way out of my comfort zone but it was fine.     We hired a car and driver for the three hour drive from Benkulu. No guide needed as path is very clear. We went up the gravel path, which is steep but not difficult, and came down through the jungle which is more challenging and would be dangerous in wet weather. No other tourists but lots of friendly local youths who go up to camp the night on the summit. The last part of the drive was beautiful with a great variety of flowers in the best kept gardens in Indonesia! Total walking time about 4 hours. See more..

    We were lucky enough that our Workaway host knew about this secret waterfall. It took about 45 minutes motorbike from Kersik Tuo. We rode past the entrance to Lake Gunung Tujuh and kept riding for about 15 minutes. Locals don't see many tourists so many waves. smiles and stares. We came to a small village and parked our bikes in a local house. We walked through coffee, cinnamon and rice gardens for about 20 minutes (very soft trek with our 5 year old son), we also sampled local fruit, mandarins, guava, etc, till we got to these magnificent falls. It was cold and misty at the base of the waterfall as it was a small overgrown area. You could take photos or go for a swim if you were keen enough. Although it was during the rainy season so we definitely weren't going in. It doesn't have a name but is known by locals as the village waterfall. Best kept secret in Kerinci Valley! See more..
