Last July-August 2015, we spent 20 days on that wonderful island with our 2 kids (9 + 11 year-old). Coming from Switzerland the journey was long but rewarding: the island is still wild and avoids mass tourism. We stayed at MARATUA GUESTHOUSE run by friendly Jun, Ana and their lovely son. We liked the relax and family atmosphere. The food was excellent in their restaurant by the seashore. The snorkeling from the resort was amazing (so many turtles! squids, lion fishes, barracudas, sea snakes, etc.). We did also really nice scuba dives with Nabucco's Extra Divers, jumped in a natural pool in the jungle, swam with stingless jellyfishes on Kakaban island and saw Manta rays on Sangalaki. Jun was really helpful in organizing the excursions and boat transfers. We dream to go back there! See more..

It’s worth the trip. We enjoy this place so much. But, to keep this place beautiful and honour the Great Creator, please accept my advice, take nothing but pictures and memories , leave nothing but footprints. See more..

This is a large park makes my family and I so amazed with attractions places that separate from each other. We can choose the park we go first and we choose zoo. We saw many animals like rabbits, deers, little bear, hedgehog, owl and uwa-uwa. Uwa-uwa is like a monkey with the bigger body than usually, and sometimes scream like “waakk waakk”. After that, we went to the top of Meratus Mountain and get through a pool and the way is so high steep and narrow (enough for two cars only). At the top we saw the amazing view. See more..

Fantastic location. One of largest lakes in Kalimantan. Danau Sentarum National Park is the largest wetland Conservation area in Indonesian (127,000ha). It comprises a series of interconnected lakes with freshwater and peat swamp forest, fishing villages and a number of hills. Travelled by car from Putussibau to Lanjat (3 hours) and then by speedboat across the lake to visit several villages and see the beautiful scenery. Stayed at an excellent homestay at the longhouse in Melemba - which can arrange short or multi-day treks. The lake level fluctuates with the seasons. In the dry season the water can drop by 10-12m leaving many lakes dry and other very small size. There is high diversity of plants and animals. See more..
