  2. 5.0 Julio Verne Travel (148 reviews)
    - Great for beginners and experienced riders
    Friday: 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM, 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM Bike Tours • Climbing Tours • Sightseeing Tours
    Julio Verne Travel image
This tour is suitable for beginners as well as experienced mountainbikers. Route 2 is the more challenging route and I would definitely recommend it for experienced riders. It's not super challenging but it is very fun. For beginners route 2 is very challenging so in our group a few people started out on route 2 but decided after a small bit of the trail that route 1 would suit them better until route 2 got less steep. The guide was very nice, was very proficient in English and had good biking skills. The bikes were okay, about what you would expect for the price. The hike at the top is also worth the effort. Lunch was great, best lunch we've had on any tour. Communication with Julio Verne Travel was very relaxed and easy. I don't know what the other tours offer (some are cheaper), but I would definitely recommend this one. See more..

  4. 5.0 Biking Spirit (37 reviews)
    - Fantastic biking tour!

    Biking Spirit image
I enjoyed mountain biking down Chimborazo with Edison of Biking Spirit today. He's an excellent tour guide who is very familiar with the Chimborazo region, and I certainly appreciate that he responded to my inquiry about a biking tour at a time when tourists are scarce in Ecuador due to Covid-19. Many biking businesses are reluctant to go on tours with only one tourist and charge too much, but Edison was honest with me. I appreciated the fact that Edison didn't just guide me down the mountain, but instructed me about features of the region and its wildlife. Highly recommended. See more..

  6. 5.0 Chimborazo Tours (25 reviews)
    - Beautiful day on the volcano slopes
Friday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Sightseeing Tours • Hiking & Camping Tours • Day Trips
    Chimborazo Tours image
I did the one day tour hiking to the Whimper refuge and descending by bike. On the way up we stopped at La Chorrera which offers a magnificent panorama. I would heartily recommend booking with Chimborazo Tours as first of all they were the only agency I contacted which accepted a single participant (other agencies would charge me double the price or just not organise the tour). Secondly my guide Paúl did not only brought me safely to the various spots but also was eager to share about the culture and history of the indigenous communities. See more..

    Payani Tour Operadora image
From before the trek to El Altar and Laguna Amarilla started, until after it was over, Payaniec was extremely accommodating and there to provide everything I needed! I am backpacking from the US and they were able to provide the gear I needed as I didn’t have my own with me, and helped me with transportation as well. They made it so easy. Communication was so easy and I want to mention I don’t speak any Spanish so that was a plus, although I wasn’t expecting that! They really went above and beyond. It’s also a very good price compared to other tour agencies. The hike itself was beautiful and actually a bit more challenging than I expected, so I’m glad I went with such a trustworthy group who values safety and made sure everyone had a good time. They took photos as well which is always nice to have! This was a once in a life time experience and I’m so grateful I came across them. Don’t book with anyone else! See more..
  9. 5.0 El Altar (9 reviews)
    - The ultimate MUD.
Mountains • National Parks • Volcanos
    El Altar image
Yes it is a great experience and yes the vievs are stunning… but even after 2 weeks without a rain it was the mud was knee deep, and so rubber boots are a must. The mud was for I think 9 km out of 12 it gets cold up there so you need take warm clothes. If it wasn’t for the mud I think I would recommend this trek to everyone and I would say it is medium hard. But this is not a case so if you are nat ready to go in the mud for 5-6h one way - it is not for you. See more..

Mauricio is a very helpful person to get around Alausi, until Chimborazo or the Parque nacional Sangay, the lagunes Ozogoche. I contacted him very shortly and he replied promptly, fetched me at the bus arrival, and brought me to the hostal, back to the train. The next day we went to the lagunas de Ozogoche and to Chimborazo. Mauricio told me a lot about history and habits of his beautiful country. It was very interesting and beautiful nature he showed me and went for a walk between the two lagunas. Thank you! I highly recommend Alausi Tours! See more..

I had a great experience with Respect Travel! The booking procedure was easy and the questions I've had were answered within 24 hours. Judith from Respect Travel organized the whole trip and I didn't have to worry about anything. She even made phonecalls for me as my spanish is not very good and she arranged a last minute tour from Quito for me. I really liked the personal service of this travel agency. I still can't put in words what I have experienced at my trip! It was breathtaking! Javier was the best guide ever! He knew so much about the wildlife and the plants in the rainforest and he also showed and explained us how it looks like and what it means if the rainforest gets cut down. It was one of my best and most impressive vacations I've ever had. See more..

The indigenous community is very present in this region. I stand tall, giant-like, in comparison. The people here are very poor. They farm the land and sustain their families. The majority of the people here speak Kinchwa and Spanish. Formal education is lacking with illiteracy in women at approx. 37%, and men 21%. The majority of the people here lack sewage (9% with sewage) with approx. 50% having in door plumbing (toilets). Less than 9% have piped water in their house. The town is famous for its Thursday market when the people come from miles away to sell their produce and animals, as well as barter. See more..

  30. 4.5 Markt Guamote (7 reviews)
    - All Markets are the Same but Different
    Flea & Street Markets
    Markt Guamote image
That’s right! Every town has a nice market where you can learn about the different native fruits and vegetables or varieties. I am so amazed by the size of their squash in Ecuador. We saw a squash that probably weighed 30 – 40 lbs. Then there is avocado that is incredibly cheap, different varieties of bananas, some for eating, some for cooking. How about the bright, colorful and vibrant traditional costumes of their local women. You can take a picture from your zoom lens so not to be intrusive or ask permission if you have to take their picture. Be prepared to be rejected. They do not smile because they are very shy. You can also slip a dollar or some treats. That is what I did. I brought bags of treats. It is always an entertaining sight to visit a local market. See more..
