Beautiful, and wasn't too hard to get to with wheels
All the other reviews were spot on, this place is gorgeous & expansive. I just didn't find a review with instructions on how to drive there, so thought I'd add my findings. The 30 minutes detour from the main highway (E35) was not only worth it but beautiful as well. Half the drive overlooks cloud-filled valleys and plains. You will also come across local people finishing a hard day's work in school or in the fields. Some of them might ask to hitch a ride with you. Do it if you have room, they'll even offer to pay, which we declined of course! More concrete tips: 1/ Google maps was useless. Searching "Lagunas de Ozogoche" showed its location, but the road in wasn't marked at all. 2/ instead download "maps me" (introduced by a fellow traveller) for iphone/android and search for "totoras". Set that as your destination. 3/ Drive past that marker, continue the short drive till the end of the road (named via Ozogoche) 4/ SUV recommended, the high clearance came in very useful at certain parts of the road. 5/ It's a very large area to explore, if there's a family offering horse rides, take it and ask them to take you to both the lagoons. We said "dos lagunas" multiple time and it seemed to work. Paid $20 each for a wonderful 1.5 hour of fun. Worth every pound, it goes straight into their pockets, not some tour agency.

One Of The Best Places In Ecuador
This is for everyone who enjoys nature in its pure sense. Ozogoche is far apart only for selected people who respect nature and the indigenous communities. Be prepared for the cold and take a tent with you. At night you are so close to the sky that you can recognize the satelites going around the earth. This is part of the Sangay National Park so please, take the trash you produce with you. From Riobamba you can take a private car south of the panamerican. At Palmira before Alausí you have the entrance to the left. 36Km. after that you get to the lakes. For adventure people with time the best day to travel thee is on thursday visiting the market of Guamote first. you have to be there around 9 to visit and then take a pick up with other people to Ozogoche. There are buses from Alausí also. Regards, Alex
