   It took us 45 minutes from our hotel in Riobamba to reach the first shelter. Basic food but a good place to use a base to hike throughout the surroundings. we hiked to the second shelter which is 900 meters away from the parking lot. It took us 40 minutes. Going down is a lot easier. We did it in 20 minutes. What to bring: Water, chocolate/candies, hiking stick, hiking shoes, sun block, sun glasses. It could get cold and rainy so be prepared. Amazing views, snow, and high altitude. Not recommended for small children. See more..

   This road is one of the most special ones in Ecuador. One of my favourites!! You can observe the wonderful Chimborazo snow-capped volcano, the green hills with the local crops and then the amazing dessert-like volcanic land, which it seems you are on Mars and then you see the beautiful vicunas walking through the moorlands, harvesting and running freely, looking up to the volcano.    This is a museum located at the top of a hill in Guaranda Ecuador. The building is in the shape of a guitar and that shape becomes more obvious as you walk around on the rooftop. The roof is decorated to look like the top of a guitar. The views from there are spectacular looking over the city and surroundings. Inside the museum are several floors showcasing the costumes worn during the Carnaval celebration, as well as pictures detailing the history the celebration. Several interactive exhibits and many photo opportunities throughout. Staff were friendly and some spoke a bit of English (the day we were there). If you are in Guaranda this museum should be added to your list of places to see. See more..
