   I totally got a kick out of this place! We just sort of wandered around the old walls and let our imaginations ride the winds of time to imperial days when the walls were tall and strong. Now, standing at the edge of the desert, they are mainly hard-packed piles and ridges of dirt but nevertheless are impressive and interesting.    Very impressive by its size,this fortress tower is part of the first section of the great wall to be built,though there have been more recent modifications.Within the courtyard there are 2 specimens of elm tree which were common in this area a long time ago.The top of the tower offers a good 360 degree view of Yulin city and the bushland/desert.Well worth a visit overall!    Do not expect for the lively tourist district. This ancient street is really what the local live and living. There are fabrics shops, noodle shops, barbershops and local business.    You don't know what to expect until you get there and walk through the gate tower. This place is really lovely and makes for a great afternoon stroll even on very cold days, as it gets the afternoon sun. The history behind the carvings is very interesting, though you probably need someone local to tell you all about them. Carvings and paintings are mostly gone after the cultural revolution madness, and the statues are replicas, but it still give you an impression of the effort and meaning of the place. See more..
