   Those who are even trying to compare to West Lake in Hangzhou are not being at all fair on this place and though yes it does have nominal similarities, that's it. This is about 120 years old, the brainchild of a local Qing lord who wanted to build a playground out of an ancient bluestone quarry. If you ignore the age of the place and just enjoy its natural beauty and elegance then you can't help but love it. I think my photos speak better than my prose can allow, so I will just say that it may or may not be worth doing the cave boat ride as it's not dirt cheap by Chinese standards and only lasts about 15 minutes, but the price of entry into the attraction is more than worth it. Take time to explore every inch of the grounds which go all the way to the caves and all the way up the hill. A great way to spend the morning, especially on a sunny day like we had! See more..

   I am the native of Shaoxing and I have visited there for over 10 times. I am glad to tell you something before your tour. First, don't believe some guys taking an album and persuading you to follow them. The whole sight is FREE, or you'll pay unnecessary money. Second, search some information about Lu Xun. It is easy to find on Google. If not, you'll all messed up and everything you see is some old buildings. The main value of this sight is that it recorded Lu Xun and his ancestors' life. For visitors who are not Chinese, some preparation is really essential. Third, Shaoxing is a small town. English speakers are far more less that major cities like Hangzhou. And locals mainly speak dialects, which is different form Mandarin. So install a translation software of find a guide is a good choice. Wish you to have a happy tour! P.S. When you think about any of the most 'beautiful' bridges in the world are just means to get from one side to another whether it's Brooklyn or San Francisco or good ole Shaoxing. This bridge is minuscule for sure, but it's all about the environment - it's surroundings are the sort of thing Westerners dream of when they imagine what they think 'real' China is going to be like and usually end up disappointed by the reality.     I went there on 7-April-2012, not far away from the city center, around 30 RMB by taxi, or if you have time, there is bus to the entrance of the spot. Admission ticket 40RMB. Quite big area of Peach trees, the hill is not too high, so it is good to have some walk, just like walking in the garden.
