   Firstly, it's not really a tower. Bai Jian Lou is basically 100 old houses situated alongside the canal at Nan Xun Ancient Town. What's so amazing about this place is that it is still lived by the locals. The old houses are renovated on the inside for modern living but the outside still maintains the original structure and design. You can still find locals washing clothes on the river, fishing, dancing, and pretty much going about their days as usual. Not much commercialism at this part of the town, hope it will stay this way. Really refreshing change from the busy hectic life of the big cities. Just find a good spot to sit and watch. It's amazing. See more..

   Drove here from Shanghai, which might be a better option than what others went through. That said, we were on a road trip heading further west. Entrance payment has been abolished. I wouldn't call this place overly commercial. There are a lot of artists and craftsmen selling their wares in an exceedingly laid back vibe. The place is atmospheric and tranquil. At this stage it is a good sign to see Chinese tourists in a scenic spot and they are of a fairly high quality. If you are at all interested in Chinese dialect, the sounds of chatter around your will be an added simulatory bonus as the local dialect is comparatively delicate and soft spoken.. See more..

    The Feiying Tower is a “tower within a tower”. The inner tower was built in the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). It is a finely carved stone structure encircled by an imposing outer tower. The outer wooden tower was built around 970 AD and underwent many renovations in subsequent dynasties. The tower is a beautiful and delicate ancient Chinese architecture.     On your way to the temple, DON'T miss the caves off to the left. They're amazing, there's literally Buddhas carved throughout the caves. The headset with the history is helpful for 40 RMB with a deposit of 100 RMB. The headset tour helps you discover some carvings that you may miss otherwise. This made our whole trip to Hangzhou. The park is tucked into the mountains and doesn't display 1/10 of it's beauty until you enter. I was also fortunate to see the monks at the temple praying. A great day! See more..

    This was surprisingly ok as so many of the displays were also in English. It was interesting to read all about this fellow and his history with silk, real estate and banking. Also interesting to see the last part showing photos of his descendants in todays modern time as they still visit the town regularly. It's also a large compound.
