   We did not go for the annual event, which I'm sure would have been interesting, but maybe too crowded. We went on a full moon day, but the wave was small, although it was interesting that it moved sideways, not coming in to shore like a regular wave. I grew up in southern California, so am used to seeing big waves. This was quite small. I don't know if there was a charge because it was part of a tour we went on outside of Haining. See more..

   家就住在附近，过去只要半个小时。盐官现在造的小时候大更多了，要留宿的可以选择开元酒店，比较有当地特色。风情一条街是一定要逛逛的，里面有个陈阁老宅不错，走进去非常大。去看钱江潮非常的近，看潮要注意一下时间，每天的时间都不一样，月圆的时候潮最大。 See more..

   this huge house and garden started in late ming dynasty, after chen yuanlong became the prime mister in later qing dynasty, the compound was expanded and uplifted to match the official's status. the remaining parts of the compound still occupied 4700+sqm with 1100sqm in buildings. a very example of ancient Chinese garden homes with extensive woodworks, rocks and plants of the rich and the powerful. local folklore was created to make believe that this chen gelao was indeed the birth father of emperor Qianlong who was switched at birth with a royal daughter. the whole thing was based on the fact that Qianlong indeed was very fond of this area and showed special favor to the chen family.     Xishan park is tranquil green oasis located on Xi Shan (West hill) where people can escape from hustle and bustle of Haining city, walk around or just relax sitting on the grass in the shade of trees. Park is easily reachable from crowded and noisy Haining centre. On the foot of hill is newly built temple, original one was very likely destroyed during "Cultural revolution". On the top of hill stands pagoda from which is good view of Haining and can see also Dongshan (East hill) with another pagoda.     Haining museum is located in modern building, from outside looks pretty big and so we were afraid we will not have enough time for visit because we arrived just 1.5 hours before closing. But actually inside is not so much to see. First floor is dedicated to Japanese aggression in China before and during World War 2. Unfortunately, everything is in Chinese only on this floor so we just viewed a pictures. On the 2nd floor is presentation of "Lantern culture": there are many beautiful lanterns in different size, colour and shapes. Underground floor was the best. There is exposition of pottery, jade and crystal jewellery and ceramics from neolithic age until the last dynasty of China which were found in or around Haining. Some religious objects were excavated from underground of Zhibiao Pagoda which stands on DongShan (Eastern hill) of Haining. See more..
