   We went to the mountain from Dandong. It's easy to go there by taking bus 218 (from the right side of the railway station if you are looking straight at it) and it costs only 2 rmb. The bus stop you need to get off at is Lao Gu Gou (about 20-25 min) and then you either take a taxi to take you up to the entrance or even to the top or you can easily walk up, as it's just 10 min of walk to the gate and 30 more minutes of a quiet hike up the hill to the temples. The place obviously closes at about 5 pm, so we didn't mind taking a taxi back down to the road for 10 rmb (the driver first asked for 20 but we were the only ones left there so he finally agreed after a bit of bargaining). After you get down to the main road, just wait for a bus back on the other side of the road. There are no bus stop signs but the locals and the bus drivers know where it is. See more..

   Nach einer halbstündigen Fahrt ist man nördlich von Dandong angekommen. Ein Fussmarsch hinauf zum höchsten Punkt bringt einem zum östlichsten Punkt der grossen Mauer.    I have been to Wulongbei Hot Springs. Wulongbei is a little bit far from Dandong. I took bus number 218 from a bus stop in Jinshan street (very near Dandong railway station). It took me almost one hour to be there. You can find many hot springs in several hotels. Since I didn't have any idea on where to go, I randomly entered one of those hotels. But I was lucky. The place where I had my bath didn't look as good as the one portrayed in the picture you can find here on Trip Advisor but it wasn't that bad. I only spent 8 RNB for one hour. It was dirt cheap indeed. If you are in Dandong and not in a rush, you can give it a try. We should always find some time to allocate to our personal care. See more..

    Wenn man sich die kleine Straße zum Tempel anschaut vermutet man nicht, dass sich hinter dem Eingangstor ein hübscher Tempelbereich verbirgt der insgesamt drei Reihen von Gebäuden beinhaltet.     As other reviews state, it is a fairly short drive N of Dandong to the site of the eastern-most section of the Great Wall in China. The mile or so of wall that you get to walk on is in very good shape, and similar to sections you can visit near Beijing. I'm told that it is usually not too crowded, and that the air is often fairly clear. We found it beautiful and fun. There are some VERY steep sections, so only do this if you are in good shape and not afraid of heights. You can make a nice loop by going back on a trail that hugs the cliffs along the river which forms the border with N. Korea. That trail would be worth the trip/price, even without the Wall being there. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this site. See more..

    You've just simply got to check this icon out - it's history and what it stands for (and has been left for) are awesome. Also, Dandong, where this is located is a city that is being built for 2.5m people over a period of just 5 years. They're on track to pull it off and that alone is worth seeing.     I had some down time on a recent border trip and wanted to see the Korean War Museum of China. I have been to the one in Seoul and the one in Pyongyang-- how many people can say that. There is only one in China, but it is not this place. The Museum has been under renovation for some time so my colleague and I settled on this center to recognize the friendship between North Koreans and China. The focus, of course, is on the Korean war 1950-53 where the intervention of China in late fall of 1950 pushed UN forces back and allowed for a negotiated truce still in place today. This center focuses on artwork by North Koreans much of which labelled with a price tag. The themes are stories of camaraderie during the war and how well North Koreans and Chinese got along. A healthy dose of Socialist Realism art is available as well. That means farm scenes and factory scenes that are over the top abundant or clean or just good. Better than reality is Socialist Reality which only exists in art. Nobody was here. We paid the guard to enter 50RMB each, steep for a museum in China, and he walked behind us shutting off the lights in each room as we finished. Gift shop had lots of things, some from North Korea, much from China about North Korea, The "Help Korea fight America" liquor set, bottled in replica hand grenades would have been my purchase, but no way to carry that through security on the train. Most staff spek no Korean, but one of the smaller guest shops has North Korean people at work, paining and embroidering by hand. Fake NK pins with pictures of the leadership were pulled out and shown, but are not normally on display. See more..

    New-Mart is a typical Chinese shopping mall. The food court is in the basement where there would be an entrance to a supermarket in similar malls. I would consider the clothes pricey, but only because I'm used to paying less away from the malls. In the neighborhood are other shops and restaurants, as well as multiple accesses to much-better-priced underground shopping (I literally mean underground, not black market). See more..
