   The day after climbing up Changbaishanxi, zig-zagging past a wall of people on the staircase and contending with the clamour and bustle of legions of happy snappers at the top trying to get their perfect photo of the sublime Tianchi Lake, it was refreshing to experience the relatively deserted, quasi-serenity of Swan Canyon and the “Five Ditches”. It’s a great place to exercise your legs without being trampled by the collective masses for a lengthy term, while exploring the canyon’s natural beauty (unusual striking rock formations and patterns, beautiful running stream). You can choose to go up the river one way, along the elevated walkway past rainforest and multiple (Mother-Child) waterfalls, and return via the flat walking trail criss-crossing a delightful bridge or three on route.    Diverted from the main tourist centre of Changbai Mountains to visit a model Korean village on the river border. The village consisted of some basic log timber dwellings, a backyard produce garden and a well.
