    Maiden Tower image
This is the most famous landmark of old Baku. With many stories regarding its history or name, the truth remains uncertain. But still we have the massive structure that beautifully lies at the footstep of old Baku, facing the shores of the Caspian sea. No visit to Baku is counted without admiring this place and if you have some extra time, why not visit it from the inside! See more..
  7. 4.5 Flame Towers (1.706 reviews)
    - A modern symbol of the Land of Fire!
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers
    Flame Towers image
Azerbaijan is known, since ancient times, as the "Land of Fire", mainly due to the large concentration of gas under the Absheron Peninsula and the natural flames that have been burning, throughout the centuries, in many parts of the country. These three skyscrapers, the "Flame Towers", represent these flames and are already a modern symbol of Baku and of Azerbaijan! They were inaugurated in 2012 and were projected by HOK (formerly Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum), an American design, architecture, engineering and urban planning firm. The buildings are occupied by apartments, offices and also by a hotel. You will pass many, many times by the "Flame Towers" while staying in Baku and I strongly recommend its evening observation, when the led motion displays are on. Unforgettable! Enjoy! See more..

The surrounding area and Icherisher are also quite beautiful! See more..

  10. 4.5 Martyrs' Lane (508 reviews)
    - A thought provoking and fitting memorial
    Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Cemeteries
    Martyrs' Lane image
Alley of Martyrs contains the cemetery and the eternal flame memorial for those killed by the Soviet Army in Black January 1990 and in the first Nagorno-Karabakh War 1988-1994. It is so beautifully kept with fresh flowers laid on the graves and placed around the eternal flame monument. It’s a peaceful, poignant place, particularly when you look at the engraved images of some of those killed and then note their ages. It’s a very fitting tribute for those whose lives were cut short defending the independence of Azerbaijan. See more..
  11. 4.5 Highland Park (502 reviews)
    - Best if you visit early morning or in evening
Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Parks

Highland Park is often the first stop on the itinerary of many tourists. I wound't recommend visiting during day time because the sun can be too hot and also their is too much of sunlight, it does washout some photos. There are graves of people who were killed by Armenians in the Armenia-Azerbaijan war in 90s. The park offers great photography background See more..

  15. 4.5 Dagustu Park (Upland Park) (225 reviews)
    - A Park with many names ...
Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Parks
    Dagustu Park (Upland Park) image
It has so many names that simply confuse the individual tourist. It is known as "Dagustu Park", or "Highland Park", also "Upland Park" and is commonly mistook as "Martyrs' Lane" and its "Eternal Flame Monument". The area is absolutely the same - the hilly side of Baku, with awesome views of the city itself, the "Bay of Baku", the "Caspian Sea", "Ferris Wheel", "Martyrs' Lane", "Eternal Flame Monument", "Mosque of the Martyrs", "Flame Towers" and so on. After the riots of January 1990, the sad "Black January", the area - the highest point in Baku - was chosen as a burial site for all those killed in the many conflicts that affected Azerbaijan in the 20th century. "Dagustu Park" is beautiful, touching and full of meanings. Respect may be a key word for all those visiting it. Try to come by sunset, with awesome some views of Baku and of the "Flame Towers", with their motion led displays. Be ready for climbing many stairs along the Park. Enjoy! See more..

    - Bubbling mud
    Volcanos
    Mud Volcanoes image
As Tissa010 says below, they're not massive volcanoes, but even so, I thought they were pretty cool. Our tour included this and we changed from a modern vehicle into a Lada, which our driver let us have a go at driving. We got here early in the morning, which is the best time to visit as just before we left, there were lots of tourists arriving. The volcanoes are small hills, with mud bubbling from them - definitely worth seeing something unique See more..

National Museum of History of Azerbaijan image
The inside of this building is just spectacular. Entrance fee for foreigners was 10 manat and I recommend paying the extra 3 manat per group to have a guide as well. There is a lot of interesting history behind this man and his family but just seeing this opulent construction is worth the time. See more..

    Nizami Museum of Literature image
This is the best museum in Baku. The museum has guides who speak English, and they take you on a tour of Arabic, Turkic, Persian, and Azeri authors from the 9th through 20th centuries. I found myself anxious to read Nizami's work after the visit, and I am now one of his fans. Lovely building in convenient location near Fountain Square. See more..

  25. 4.5 Sculpture Girl on Bench (102 reviews)
    - A Thematic Sculpture!
    Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
    Sculpture Girl on Bench image
Baku is the home of quaint statues. You can see them in the parks, squares and shopping streets. Most are crafted out of bronze. This statue, which shows a girl in a modern dress sitting on a bench applying lipstick, can be seen in the Fountain Square. This and some of the other statues in Baku, like those of the liberated woman and girl with an umbrella, show the modern face of Baku. They portray the modern free woman in a secular Azerbaijan. I really loved this twenty first century statue. See more..
  26. 4.5 House Museum of Nobel Brothers in Baku Villa Petrolea (31 reviews)
    - One of the city highlights
    Speciality Museums
House Museum of Nobel Brothers in Baku Villa Petrolea image
Villa Petrolea was built in Baku by Ludvig and Emanuel Nobel in the 1880s. They chose this location for their opulent mansion to be in the middle of their production fields to have better control and oversight of their oil production and their company Branobel. Several generations of Nobels lived and were born in this mansion. Today, the villa has been restored to its former glory by the Baku Nobel Heritage Fund, and serves as a museum that preserves and promotes the Nobel heritage, wider East-West relations, and shows the lives of quintessential oil barons. 27. 4.0 Ateshgah - Fire Temple (905 reviews)
    - Impressive temple - would have been magical in its heyday.
Sunday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Ancient Ruins
    Ateshgah - Fire Temple image
It's an interesting place to visit, especially after the Fire Mountain. The flames here are now not natural due to the extraction of oil and gas reducing the pressure. You can though see how it would have been. There is a range of rooms with exhibitions in that are well worth looking through. See more..

    - Unforgettable views of Baku and the Caspian Sea from Ferris Wheel!
Sunday: 10:00 AM - 11:00 PM Amusement & Theme Parks
    Ferris Wheel image
This is a relatively new attraction at Baku's "Sea Side National Park"! The "Ferris Wheel" is also known as "Baku Ferris Wheel", "Baku Eye" and still as "Devil's Wheel"! It was inaugurated in 2015 at Baku's Boulevard, in the Absheron Region. From its 30 air-conditioned enclosed cabins and from a maximum height of 60 mts., unforgettable views of Baku and the Caspian Sea. The full ride lasts around 30 to 40 minutes and is unmissable to all those visiting Baku! Evening rides, with all Baku's lights on, are absolutely fantastic! Enjoy! See more..
  30. 4.0 Boom Town (87 reviews)
    - Where it all began!
    Historic Walking Areas
    Boom Town image
When you reach Baku you are delighted to see a beautiful, clean historic city. You see skyscrapers and oil baron mansions. But how were all these financed. Oil was a common product in Azerbaijan and by 2012 Azerbaijan was supplying nearly half the oil of the world. The ugly rigs with donkey pumps can be seen on offshore platforms and on land on various locations. The barren desert landscape filled with oil extraction machinery brings to mind scenes from the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough. One easy way to see these landscapes is to sit on the red bus #125 in Bibi Heybat Mosque direction and get off at the mosque. Go towards the sea and look at the off shore platforms. Coming back to town you can see land extraction sites on your right. It is something worth seeing. See more..
