La Seo del Salvador, Aragon, Spain

Extraordinary architecture inside and out.

An extraordinary place. A handset guide is included in your entrance fee - but unfortunately it’s the same English narrator who mispronounces so many words; and the same historian who has written so many words, that we are familiar with from so many other cathedral visits in Spain - so much detail about the chapels. However, I am told that the guide for children is really good. Lots of chapels to see, but it’s the main building architecture that is so stunning. Take a look around outside, especially towards the rear. The entrance fee includes the tapestry museum - really not to be missed. On reflection, my advice would be to visit the outside first, then the tapestries before using what energy you have left with the handset and guide to the chapels.

Many works of many arts went into the impressive space
A truly impressive, gorgeous over-the-top experience. Sadly they don't allow photographs inside, but inside and out, the sheer immensity of the work is impressive. A church built on a mosque built on a church built on a Roman temple, to say it has a history would be an understatement. But the amount of work and effort that has gone into the interior is your time to take it slow and easy.

    La Seo
My original purpose for visiting La Seo was to see its tapestry collection. However, I was most impressed with the unique blend of architectural styles that creates this 700 year-old church (Romanesque, Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance, Baroque). The tall bell tower is most certainly reminiscent of a mosque’ minaret. Inside, numerous chapels line the sides. Many feature exceptional wood and stone carvings, paintings, mosaics, sculptures and relics. The impressive choir section features exquisitely carved chairs and a massive organ. There are plenty of places to sit for quiet contemplation. No photos are permitted inside. The admission fee includes the upstairs tapestry museum which should not be missed.
