Stairway to heaven...!

You may travel the world but I can guarantee that you will not see a more majestic, grand and spectacular stairway than this one in Teruel. Simply called 'La Escalinata' or the staircase, it is a marvelous example of mudejar inspired architecture. Built in 1921 by Ancieto Marinas, it elevates the modest stairway in architecture to a level of inspired art. It is simply awesome. Its detailing, the placement of tiles and brickwork is stunning. As is it's relief sculpture of Teruel's storied lovers. To me it qualifies to be a permanent art installation. It may be 'just' a staircase but Do Not Miss it!

    Wonderful Mudejar Construction
The Escalinata is a beautiful example of Mudejar art and was built in 1921 by Aniceto Marinas in the Mudejar style. It leads from the rail station to the top of the hill, to the street Paseo del Ovalo. Close to the top of the stairs you can see a sculpture in relief of the Lovers of Teruel. Aniceto Marinas created it. The top of the staircase is beautified with two small Mudejar towers made of brick.

    Impressive staircase
It only takes the time to walk up the steps to see, but the mudejar style and tiles are stunning. If drivng into town the staircase is in front of the train station.
