My wife and I did the 2 day 1 night Hang Tien excursion with Hung (pronounced Hong). This was one of the best adventures we’ve done. The trek itself was difficult at times (sharp limestone rock, steep uphill/downhills) and very hot/humid (>100 F at night with 80% humidity) but it was so worth it. Hung and his team make the trek relaxed, fun, and he shares information and facts along the way. You go through three different caves total, and they are total pro’s at knowing where the best picture spots/angles/lighting are. During the breaks, the porters/team all fan you to cool you off. There’s plenty of water provided. We brought our own boots (highly recommend)- don’t worry, they don’t get destroyed, just a bit muddy, easily cleaned afterwards. No leeches at all (something we were quite worried about prior to the trip) but there were tons of mosquitos so be sure to bring bug spray/deet. The sights are breathtaking and this is a once in a lifetime adventure that is a must-do in Vietnam. See more..

I did this trek with 3 other friends on 20/11/2016. It can be quite strenuous if you are as unfit as me ;) However the caves and the climbing is completely worth it. We had lovely guides and porters carrying the life jackets and food. We were guided by Leo and Huyen who looked after us well. Look out for the poison Ivy (make sure u were long sleeve shirts,long pants etc). They provide shoes you can wear which is very helpful as ull be walking through knee deep water and if you are backpacking like me wet shoes take forever to dry!!!. It was a bit rainy when we went and in some places it can be scary trying to climb things, just make sure to take your time to get a grip at places. There is no point bringing a change of clothes as you will be completely drenched either from your own sweat, the rain or both! Best part is the cold beer that you are given at the end of the whole thing to celebrate! ;) Definitely recommend doing this tour if you want to have a full on experience of the jungle in a short period of time. We spent an amazing day at Paradise Caves and Phong Nga caves. It is a brilliant day trip and worth a vsiit. Sy who was a really very good guide. Recently I completed a 2 day motorbike tour around the DMZ, I had the best time on this trip. My guide Toan was extremely knowledgeable and answered all my questions. I really liked how he would point out different plants and trees while we were driving and give facts about them. It was also nice learning about the local culture. The accommodation we stayed as was great and Toan picked some amazing places for local food. I would 1000% recommend him to anyone wanting to do a bike trip in Vietnam! See more..

If you want to learn anything about nature and don’t want to visit any (more) caves, then this tour is perfect for you! I am so glad that I did this tour. Hai and his crew are really kind people who love nature and work hard to protect the area. You’ll visit the ‘Wildlife Rescue Centre’ and they tell you how they help the animal. What I really like is that 25% of the price of the tour is going to the rescue centre. In that way you also make a meaningful contribution to the centre. The BBQ in the middle of the jungle is just so much fun en tasty! Nice to eat with the whole crew. You will go off the normal tracks and really deep into the jungle. Tung's motorbike rental provides good quality and affordable motorbike rental services in Dong Hoi - I'd recommend visitors travelling to Phong Nha Cave / Paradise Cave, and intent to travel using rental bikes to contact Tung to book in their motorbikes. Importantly, the owner (Tung) was extremely helpful and kind. Out of his concern for our safety (Because we weren't great at bikes). He advised us not to travel ourselves because of the long (~60km one way) and mountains route to Paradise Cave/Phong Nha that could be difficult and dangerous for beginners/unfamiliar tourists. In lieu of that, he organised bike riders to take us to both caves in a day affordably and at short notice. Moreover, for travellers who are looking for convenience, comfort and value. I'd also recommend their hotel called "Hai Dang" Hotel (means sea lights). Owner is kind enough to lend us his brand new bikes to explore the city and also showed us local shops and restaurants to visit. See more..

Son Doong Cave is in the heart of the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park in Quang Binh province. This incredible cave was only explored in 2009/2010 by the British Cave Research Association. Situated in the deep jungle, the entrance to the cave was found by a local jungle man Mr Ho Khanh. Son Doong Cave is now the largest cave in the world and has understandably been the attention of many film companies such as the BBC, National Geographic, Japanese and Brazilian teams. It also featured in National Geographic Magazine in 2011. Son Doong cave is unlike any other caves on the planet. Inside this giant cave are two huge daylight windows which allows the light to enter many parts of the cave. At the base of these windows are large jungles which use the available light and so trees up to 30m tall are present. But Son Doong is not only about its immense size, the cave has amazing examples of some of the best speleothems in the world. Giant stalagmites up to 80m high and enormous rimstone pools are present throughout the cave. There are also excellent examples of giant cave pearls and a newly discovered side passage is full of large fossils over 300 million years old. As well as rare species of plants in the cave a number of new species of animals have recently been discovered. Monkeys, hornbills and flying foxes have all been seen in the jungle section of the caves. See more..

Tu Lan caves system is located in Minh Hoa District, Quang Binh Province, this is the Karst center of 200ha next to Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park. The caves system has been discovered by local fishermen in 2009 and explored by British Cave Research Association (BCRA) in 2010, there were only 3 caves, Tu Lan, Hang Ken and Hang Tien have been explored in 2010 expedition, in 2012 the BCRA expedition came back and explored more caves include Hung Hon, Hang Uoi, Hang Chuot, Hang Son Oxalis and Hang Kim. There are few more caves have been found in 2013 in this area. Tu Lan caves system became popular when Carsten Peter (NatGeo photographer) took a photo in Hang Ken that won so many prizes on National Geographic Magazine in 2011. The caves system is now open for tourist and managed by Oxalis Company Limited, and special caving and jungle trekking company. The intent of Oxalis that to keep this caves system as natural, no construction and housing to be built in this area, the objective is making everybody feel like the first person in the area. I organised a 4 day bike ride for myself and 9 friends from Phong Nha through to Hoi An. When I say organised, I basically emailed Shi and he did the rest. We rode over 300km's through some of the most majestic countryside Vietnam has to offer. We are semi serious weekend riders and there were some nerves about the bikes supplied, but from the beginning, everything was great. The bikes were first class, with a bike mechanic there at your beg and call. It was very hot but we were never left short when it came to water and sports drinks. The food was fantastic and the hotels we stayed at were perfect and exactly what we were after. I never felt pressured at any point along the ride (with the exception of the Hai Van pass which is awesome to ride but hard work). The ride itself was a great mix of challenges and beautiful scenery. Shi and the entire team were just amazing and I can honestly say, this is one of the best things I have ever done. See more..

Incredibly friendly staff with a lot of interesting facts not only about the caves and nature we hiked through, but about Vietnamese culture and way of thinking as well. Chris, our guide, is a smart and fun guy who is passionate about his work and hobby. We’d also like to thank the porters Dat and Nam for their strength and quickness in carrying our lunch and equipment. Lovely BBQ lunch with way too much food for us to finish. Though the water in the wet cave was chilly, we all jumped in for an adrenaline swim and little climb over the stream. It was nice to see the nature being well taken care of by the company in means of waste and our touristic footprint to the reserve. I was hesitated a bit while booking the tour but afterwards it's really worth it! For normal public tour, you can only visit the very "surface" of the cave. But this kayak tour allows us to climb through rocks, swim in the fresh water, discover deeper into the cave system. Such experience! I have a slightly different take on Victor. I worked with him for 3 years in the caves and jungle around Phong Nha and Tu Lan. He and I, back then, worked for the Oxalis company taking customers on cave and jungle trips of up to 5 days, with a big dose of adventure and for the company, difficult logistics.
