  1. 5.0 Rainbow Glacier Adventures LLC (704 reviews)
    - Skagway photo adventure
Saturday: 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM River Rafting & Tubing • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Photography Tours
    Rainbow Glacier Adventures LLC image
This was a Holland America photography tour out of Skagway, Alaska. Your guide was Dale Cunning. It was an excellent tour in a small group. Dale timed stops to avoid crowds at the popular sites. Over 3 hours we made about 10 stops at photographic stops most of which I would have missed on my own. Dale is helpful to assist everyone no matter what their level of experience. Itinerary will vary depending on weather conditions. We had good weather so we started out at Skagway grave yard and waterfall and up to white pass and just into the Yukon. Got lots of great photos! 2. 5.0 Kroschel Films Wildlife Center (545 reviews)
    - An absolute must if you are in Haines or Skagway
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Kroschel Films Wildlife Center image
Quite simply, the Kroschel Films Wildlife Center absolutely moved me. Steve Kroschel is an independent film maker who has worked with Nat Geo, BBC, PBS and many others, bringing nature to the big screen. His love and dedication to preserving and conserving our natural world is contagious. A little outside of the box, Steve’s energy and enthusiasm creates an experience that is impossible to ignore. All the feels. It makes my heart happy to know that people like Steve and his crew (we met humble Patrick and bubbly Ivanka) are out there in the world. I left a bit teary eyed, I was so moved. If you are ever in Haines, Alaska…this is a must!!! It is educational in the “rightest” of ways. I am actually struggling to find the words to accurately describe the emotions that this experience and this wonderful human being created for me. Thank you!!! See more..

    - Fantastic

Takshanuk Mountain Trail by 4x4 image
Excellent! This was a really nice adventure. The food and drink was fantastic, we were collected from the dock with really clear communication. On the trail, the vehicles were easy to manage despite the steep paths. There were fantastic views and hidden gems, waterfalls, a lovely lake, and spectacular views back over the valley. We had 3 kids with us between 4 and 11 and all fitted in the back seat comfortably. Cost-wise you get a lot more for your money than some other tours, and I felt like it was money well spent. Chilkat River image
This was an amazing rafting experience ! We were in town (Haines) for only one day with no previous arrangements, headed to the Eagle sanctuary. With only a phone call we had an experienced, knowledgeable engaging tour guide, that listened to what we were interested in, and accommodated all our requests. Further, we found this father – son team that operated this company to be instantly likeable, to the point that weve already begun plans to return. See more..

  9. 5.0 Battery Point Trail (22 reviews)
    - Well constructed and maintained
    Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
    Battery Point Trail image
We hiked this trail today. One of the best maintained trails we have hiked in Alaska. The forest areas are lovely with gravel on the trail. Some elevation changes may be a challenge for some, so don't be surprised. There are bridges over little creeks or large rocks placed aa stepping stones. We saw sea birds, porcupine, bear scat, scoters, winter wrens and many mushrooms. If you hike it with little children plan on carrying them part of the time. There are some benches for a rest if you find the trail tiring. Hike out to the beach and keep walking on the beach and you will get to Battery Point...close to the channel marker. No restrooms, no trash cans, no fresh water. Pack it in, pack it out! See more..
  10. 5.0 Chilkat State Park (22 reviews)
    - Great views!
    Spent 2-3 hours State Parks
    Chilkat State Park image
Getting there required going over a gravel road full of very deep potholes then going down a very steep hill with sharp switch back turns. Twice as bad coming back out. Use 4 wheel drive (if you have it ) to make the climb easier through all the large ruts. The view of rainbow glacier was worth it! Be sure to go in the morning so the sun is on the glacier for great pictures. See more..
  11. 5.0 Tour de Scooter (5 reviews)
    - Best way to see Haines
    Spent 2-3 hours Gear Rentals
    Tour de Scooter image
As a cruise stop, we loved Haines! We highly recommend seeing Haines by the Scooter. There is only one ship in port at once, so the town still feels quaint and not overwhelmed with people. We decided to rent scooters ($20 an hour or $60 for the day), which was much less than any of the cruise excursions; however, only one adult per scooter because they are smaller engines. Alex gave us great directions, and we grabbed a Haines is for Hikers from the visitor center. We hiked Mt. Riley, which was more difficult than anticipated and took ~3.5 hours, but was spectacular at the top. We then rode out to the Chiphok Lake, which is a beautiful ride, and let us see a bunch of eagles. See more..

    - Free, nice views, Mtns and lake and wildlife. Many Photo Opportunities.
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
Chilkoot Lake State Recreation Area image
This is a large lake with Mtn's as the back ground. There is a self serve campground that has many large pull through sites, although there is low hanging branches from the mature spruce trees. We did see many large RV's in the campground. The campground overlooks the lake. This is a primitive park. This is a good kayak /canoe lake. The Chilkoot River runs from the lake to Haines inlet. This river may be 1 mile long but it is filled with Salmon in late June and July. This brings fisherman, eagles, bears and many onlookers. The river is fast flowing and has many varieties of birds. This area is about 11 miles from Haines but the drive to the recreation area is wonderful also. You pass the Haines Ferry Terminal and have great views. Look up for eagles and down in the water for harbor seals. Bears show up when salmon run is on also. The 11 mile ride also has several pull outs that have outdoor johns for your use. Have fun, this is a beautiful area. See more..

Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • History Museums
    Jilkaat Kwaan Heritage Center image
We really enjoyed our trip to the Jilkaat Kwaan Heritage Center. The four clan houses built inside were beautiful and fascinating to see, and we were fortunate enough to arrive in time to hear some of the stories that had been passed down through the generations. There was a lot of road construction on the road leading to the center, which will likely last for another year or two. But if possible, it is worth the trip. See more..

Alaska Indian Arts in Haines image
Artists working live, curator providing information on artifacts left out to touch and feel, i dont usually find much interest in "native art" as it has been over-commercialized, made in china and so on, but this was genuine - a working creative studio, unapologetically messy, and hands on touch/feel/ talk/ learn something new. see something that actually moves you. yep - i bought stuff. and got some great photos too. i highly recommend this visit. and its free if you dont get caught up in the great art and simply have to buy something. which by the way is authentic and at a great price.
