Applewood is the historic Flint, Mich., estate of automotive pioneer Charles Stewart Mott, open seasonally from May–October. In addition to the home and attached greenhouse, the 34-acre estate includes an apple orchard with 29 heirloom varieties, extensive gardens, a gatehouse, barn, and coop. Applewood Estate is a Michigan Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. C.S. Mott built Applewood in 1916 as a family home and gentleman’s farm. Though the site is no longer operated as a farm and does not house animals, today it remains open to the public as a historic site, community resource, place of beauty and tranquility, and a tribute to the legacy of C.S. When there is not a pandemic, they have wonderful programs. We have been pretty bored since we cannot go many places during this time. We go to For-Mar a couple times a week to walk the trails and enjoy nature. You may see deer, turkeys, geese, frogs, turtles, snakes chipmunks and more on your visit if you’re looking! No pets allowed. There is also a tree house that was featured on tv but once you’ve seen it a couple of times, it’s not that exciting. We go mostly to look around the pond. Flint Symphony Orchestra plays seasonally at this fine concert venue. Many other class acts perform including singers, dancers etc. We went to the Christmas Pops concert in December and thoroughly enjoyed it and the wonderful solo sopranos. See more..
