Andrew had a tremendous knowledge about all aspects of the island and was able to communicate this in an interesting and informative way. His in-depth descriptions added tremendous value to the days we spent with him on our U3A tour. He really helped to bring the island, its history and its people to life. He worked diligently to make sure that he was fully prepared for every aspect that we encountered. He was adept at meeting the range of needs of the whole group and interacted with everyone in a friendly and supportive manner. Would highly recommend, without hesitation. See more..
  2. 5.0 Milner's Tower (109 reviews)
    - Port Erin and Milner's Tower

    Milner's Tower image
A tiring but satisfactory hike up to Milner's Tower from Port Erin beach is well worth your time and effort when on the Isle of Man. Starting from the shores of Port Erin beach you can walk up towards Bradda Glen and make your way towards the Bradda Glen Restaurant and Car Park. From here you make the climb up towards Milner's Tower at the head of the land travelling along the coastal cliff path through fields of heather and over stony steps until you reach the tower. From hear you can look back towards Port Erin in the distance and be amazed at the distance you have managed to conquer and then it's time to make your way back to the town and enjoy some R & R at the Cosy Bar on the beach front . Shona Boat image
A boat trip to the Calf of Man (staycation activity). Jason was so friendly but professional. Made us all feel welcome but safe with his easy manner and safety briefing. Phil was a cheery chappy too! A great trip to spend a wonderful 3.5 hours on the Calf. Plenty of time to see it all and relax with our picnic! Jason and Phil took us to see the Drinking Dragon which is more spectacular than the Azur Window (malta before it collapsed) and close it to see the many many seals. Lots of info shared about what we could see from the boat and what to see on the Calf. A must do... take a picnic! See more..

    Port Erin Paddleboards image
Wow. Whole family exhausted but delighted after our first paddleboarding session. The four of us were in a group of about a dozen customers, expertly guided by three brilliant women who knew exactly how to help each of us and give us the confidence we needed. Especially our young boys who needed a lot of help to start with. Glad we hired wetsuits too as my wife and I fell in a fair bit! All equipment in great condition. Really good fun. See more..
  6. 5.0 Walking Mann (17 reviews)
    - Great Sunday walk
    Private Tours • Day Trips
    Walking Mann image
Walking Mann recently advertised smaller 2 hour guided tours for the new year. My girlfriend and I decided to go on the tour of Scarlett and Pooil Vaiish. Ian met us at the car park although a free pick up was offered if we needed. The tour was an easy walk along the coast near Castletown with intervals along the way. Ian provided informative historical notes of the area which, even for local people, was interesting and well researched. Although the group was large(20/25) people, Ian made time to chat to everyone and we all felt like one group of friends by the end. Even the dogs!!!! Look forward to another walk soon and thank you from both of us. See more..

    Golf Courses
Shortish course but interesting with a varied style of parkland / moorland holes. From 8 through to 16 is the more interesting with the Par 3 8th teeing off from a huge height to the green far below. The sea views as you come home on the last 4 holes are fantastic with the waves rolling in. When the wind blows it's windy! Very friendly welcome afterwards in the clubhouse. See more..

  14. 3.0 St Catherine's Church (1 review)
    - A typical C19th church built to accommodate a rapidly increasing population
    Monday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
    St Catherine's Church image
In the C19th people had to walk to the parish church of Kirk Christ between Port Erin and Port St Mary. Not only was this a long walk, the church wasn’t large enough to accommodate all the holiday makers in the summer months. William Milner a wealthy safe maker from Birkenhead, retired to Port Erin and, after his death in 1874, left a plot of land to build a church in memory of his wife. The church was built using Manx Slate and opened in 1880. It was a simple building, based on the C13th Gothic style. It was extended at the west end a few years later as more seating was needed for the summer influx of visitors and a small tower was added on the south west side. This contains two bells. The larger one was the fog bell at the Chicken Rock lighthouse until 1909. The inside of the church is equally simple and has changed little since it was built, with whitewashed walls and open construction wood roof. See more..
  15. 3.0 Kirk Christ Church (1 review)
    - The original parish church for the area
    Monday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Churches & Cathedrals
    Kirk Christ Church image
This was the original parish church for Rushen, which was a large disperse parish covering all of the south west tip of the island and including Port Erin and Port St Mary. The church is not on the usual tourist itinerary and receives few visitors. In many ways there is nothing outstanding or special about the church, it is just a nice small church. It is an attractive small white church which was restored in the C18th and is typical of many churches of that time with its pyramids at the corners of a rectangular building, along with a not so common Cupola bell tower. It is still in regular use. Inside it is simply furnished with a gallery at the back with the organ. Dating from 1904, this was funded by voluntary contributions from parishioners, including some who had emigrated to South Africa. Before then there would have been a small ‘orchestra’ of local musicians playing in the gallery. There are some quite nice C19th stained glass windows. These include one to William Miner, a wealthy Birkenhead safe maker who retired to Port Erin and set up a number of charities to help local residents and particularly poverty stricken fishermen. Appropriately the image depicts Jesus calling Simon and Andrew to leave their nets and follow him. See more..
  16. 3.0 Cronk Howe Mooar (1 review)
    - An important historical site
    Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites
    Cronk Howe Mooar image
This is the remains of an C11/12th motte that was possibly one of the three castles built by Magnus Barelegs. The motte stands about 35’ above the flat landscape and is surrounded by the remains of a ditch. It is on private land but can be glimpsed from Ballafesson Road but is best seen from the public footpath running from Ballafesson Road to Honna Road. There isn't a lot to see and there is no access to the motte, but it was once an important part of the history of the Isle of Man. See more..
