- 5.0 Castletown Golf Links (47 reviews)
-Fantastic in every way
Monday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Golf Courses • Game & Entertainment Centers
Castletown Golf Links is a unique championship golf course situated on the Langness Peninsula in the Isle of Man, surrounded by the sea on all three sides. The Isle of Man occupies just about the same area as Greater London - no more than 33 miles long and less than half that distance at its widest point. At Castletown golf is mostly played well above sea level, with views at every hole of tumbling cliffs, rocky outcrops, sweeping bays and, of course, the ever present sea. Yet the playing conditions are pure links golf - tight-knit, quick draining turf and smooth, fast running greens, with gorse, whispy fescues, and heather defining fairways. The original Castletown Club was formed in 1892 and holes were laid out on the present site in the early 1900's by Old Tom Morris, widely regarded as the modern pioneer of golf. Just a few years before he had confirmed to a potential client: "My fee for laying out a green is One Pound Sterling and travelling expenses", so the exercise was not too costly! Following the Second World War, the course was re-designed and restored by the very well-respected architect, Mackenzie Ross, and it is that course which is in play today. With water on all sides and two magnificent bays carving swathes along each flank, it is a dramatic and wonderfully natural site for a golf course. See more..
- 4.0 St Michael's Isle (6 reviews)
-A magical place - with a little niggle
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Islands
Hidden away down a very narrow walled causeway past the horrible half-closed golf club hotel, this glorious island has lots going for it. Gorgeous views and fascinating geological formations with lots of nature abound. An old fort and a ruined chapel add to the interest. However, both of these places are not open to walk around - what appear to be ancient rusted gates stop you from getting inside and having a proper look - a pity, as the fort looked like it had some interesting things inside. - 4.0 Langness Peninsula (1 review)
-Remote and beautiful
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Mysterious Sites
After the last houses of Derbyhaven vou have to take a small single track road on the right which curves sharply southwards and heads across a golf course to a parking area. The Peninsula of Langness has a splendid coastline of rocks and caves. You also can visit Herring Tower built in 1811 as a landmark for shipping before the building of the lighthouse which was only built in 1880. Langness Peninsula offers beautiful views and its the perfect place to chill. See more..
- 3.5 Derbyhaven Beach (3 reviews)
-Beach and nice harbour
Beaches • Scenic Walking Areas
Derbyhaven consists of a small village, street of houses that line the beach, looking out on to the bay. With it's private boats moored up onto the beach and out at sea, makes this a good photo point A peaceful spot on the island minus the nearby airport, with plenty of walks to be had if you include the nearby Langness Peninsula. One of my favourite places to take a visit too on the Island I am rating the beach, the view and the town itself, but could do with a café to enjoy the views, also a gift shop. Something the goverment could look into if they wish to bring more tourism to the Island. Make the most out of these relaxing and scenic spots. If you are taking a trip to Castletown in your car then take a detour to Derbyhaven and it's beach. See more..
