   St Michael’s is set off the main road and reached through massive lych gate built to hod the crosses. These have now been moved into the church to prevent further erosion. This, along with the collection at Maughold, is one of the best collections in the island. It is a large church, set in an equally large churchyard. Being close to Bishopscourt which was the official residence of the Bishops. There are five bishops buried in the graveyard, near the remains of the chancel wall of an earlier church. They are signed from the pathway into the church. The church was built in the C19th and feels light and airy inside. The chancel is quite small compared to the rest of the church. It still retains its box pews and on either side of the chancel arch are boards with the Ten Commandments, Creed an Lord’s Prayer. The church is open from 9-4.30 and there are light switches in the porch. It is a very pleasant church and definitely worth visiting for the crosses. See more..
