  1. 4.5 Ballaglass Glen (22 reviews)
    - Beautiful glen on Manx Electric Railway route
    Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Ballaglass Glen image
Ballaglass Glen is situated between Laxey and Ramsey and the northerly section is served only by rail, there being no direct road access. It is part of Cornaa Glen and totals about 17 acres. The glen has a rocky stream that flows through the wooded terrain. The remains of a flax mill and the stone buildings, which once belonged to a lead mine, can still be seen in the glen. The building by the river and near the top of the glen was the mine’s office and the structure against it, the wheel case. Very remote and private, with not a single invasion our entire visit. Need some alone time to clear your head and enjoy nature.. This is the place! See more..
  2. 4.5 Maughold Village Church (19 reviews)
    - A wonderful piece of history
Spent 1-2 hours Churches & Cathedrals

We visited here on Thursday 10th October. It was a little hard to find and some of the lanes leading to it are very narrow, but it is well worth persevering. It's near Ramsey, on the Isle of Man. A detailed map will show the roads. There is a lovely old church, and some very old gravestones. The earliest one I saw was 1713 - exactly 300 years old. There is a shelter where there are some ancient Celtic crosses, I understand these are from the neolithic era, and are between 2,000 and 4,000 years old. It feels very restful and peaceful, looking through the gravestones to the sheep in the paddock and out over the Irish sea. Public toilets are available very close to the Church grounds, and are signposted. See more..

    Cashtal yn Ard image
One of my favorite sites on Isle of Man. Well preserved chambered tomb from 2000 BC with an amazing view of the Irish Sea all the way to England.. What's not to love?! Was a communal burial place for Neolithic chieftains. My bff and I hiked here from Glen Mona. Just a couple of miles round trip. Took the Manx Electric Railway to Glen Mona halt. There's a trail next to the halt that goes east to Port Cornaa Rd. First left is an unnamed road that will take you up to the path to Cashtal yn Ard. Incredible piece of history and being from the US, I'm not even sure how to process 4000 years old. Totally worth the hike up. Highly recommended! See more..

Maughold Head is the closest point to England. We came here by car. There is a narrow lane and a car park nearby. Just hope there is no car coming from the other direction. Luckily it was a quiet day when I visited. This is a nature reserve. You have marvelous views of the island and the coast as well as the sea. It is well worth a stroll. There is the Maughold Head Lighthouse which is now automated and not open to the public. If you are a birdwatcher, you might see various seabirds. It is also a good spot to take photos. See more..
