    Moira Demesne image
Moira Demesne is a great place for a post-coffee walk. You can do a lap of the park in about twenty minutes but there are other bits of forest to explore. I like how they've redeveloped it with a wildflower garden and the exercise machines are good too. Foymore Lodge Country Pursuits image
Recently visited Foymore Lodge Country Pursuits, just outside Portadown, with a group of friends. Tried clay pigeon shooting, airguns and archery. 'Robin Hood' eat your heart out - and totally surprised myself at being able to hit the clays too!! The staff and instructors were excellent... safety was paramount on the day but this didn't compromise the 'craic;' the group had a fantastic time. Didn't realise they do off road driving as well so will definitely be back for that!! Would recommend this outdoor pursuits centre to anyone - young or old. The group had a 'great day out.' 18. 4.5 Ring of Gullion (116 reviews)
    - Slieve Gullion Forest Park
Spent More than 3 hours Historic Walking Areas • Geologic Formations
    Ring of Gullion image
The Ring of Gullion is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is home to the very popular Slieve Gullion Forest Park, as well as Derrymore Estate and Camlough Lake. The Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a unique geological landform, unparalleled elsewhere in Ireland or the UK and was the first ring dyke in the world to be geologically mapped. It was voted onto the ‘Top 100 Geosites of UK & Ireland’. The ring of low, rugged hills forms a ‘rampart’ around the heather-clad Slieve Gullion mountain. Rich semi-wild habitats of heath, bog and woodland contrast with the neatly patterned fields and ladder farms. The AONB straddles the Northern Ireland border with the Republic of Ireland in south Armagh. The AONB shares many landscape characteristics with the adjacent Cooley peninsula in County Louth. Slieve Gullion’s mysterious reputation arises from its associations with legends and the wider area’s rich archaeological heritage. It was along these roads and fields, and over these hills and mountains, that Cúchulainn and the Red Branch Knights, the O’Neills and the O’Hanlons roamed, battled and died. You can read some of these stories about Fionn Mac Cumhaill, Cúchulainn and the Cailleach Beara in the Living History Section, but better still Experience Gullion at one of the many local pubs and storytelling houses or visit the Giant’s Lair at Slieve Gullion. The Ring of Gullion is alive with history, awash in scenic beauty and bursting with culture. You can Experience Gullion’s rich geology, biodiversity and archaeology very easily. Browse the Ring of Gullion site, and plan your trip; you can Experience Gullion with our self guided Audio Tours or you can choose a guide from our tour guides page to bring Gullion to life with their local knowledge. You can also use our Interactive Map to Experience Gullion before heading out. There are lots of ways to Experience Gullion and Get Involved through volunteering, events, training or simply taking a stroll ... See more..

  21. 4.5 Moneypenny's Lock (33 reviews)
    - Hidden gem
    Historic Sites
    Moneypenny's Lock image
Wanted to walk somewhere different so based on reviews we went here. Not being from the area we used google maps to guide us. However, it said we'd arrived but all we could see was a ditch. Nevertheless we drove on and parked on the roadside beside a few other cars as we guessed they were all there for the same reason. After a quick walk up the hill we saw a small sign saying Moneypenny's Workshop. This wasn't visible from the road we were on. We had a lovely walk along the canal. Then after a mile or so we saw a pretty cottage on the water's edge with a wee picturesque garden. The blacksmith's forge was beside it. We talked to the blacksmith about his craft and he filled us in on the events and workshops that were held there. Best part is that these classes also run on Saturdays so we are booking ourselves in for a return visit. This was a great find. Can't wait to return here. See more..

    - Marvellous Amenity BUT ....
    Biking Trails
    Newry Canal Towpath image
Delightful bucolic walk through lush countryside. But utterly spoiled by groups of cyclists speeding through - all the time, you are conscious of the need to keep to the edge of the pathway, or to listen out for a bicycle bell ushering you out of the way. Cyclists wheeling along gently, no problem, but if you're intending to treat this beautiful pathway as a racetrack, please keep to the roads! Otherwise a wonderful amenity See more..
