Did a Derry City Walls Tour in December. It was icy cold but Tony's warm welcome at 10am set the tone for the rest of the tour. 75 minutes walking along the City Walls filled with history, culture, witticisms imparted in a very easy way by an instantly likeable tour guide, who tailored the tour to our particular interests. Tony answered all our questions and proudly promoted all that is good about the city and county of Derry/Londonderry in a completely impartial way. I cannot recommend this tour enough for anyone looking for an overview of Derry past and present. Only word of caution is for those with limited mobility that there are a fair few steps and gradients. Tours leave at 10am 12pm 2pm and 4pm and only cost £6 per person. It is £6 well spent. My friend and I travelled to Derry in September 2022 from London. Having been born in the 90s, we have only known NI post-Good Friday agreement and the Troubles were never taught to us in school so we felt it was important to educate ourselves. Our guide, George, was a lovely man who was extremely knowledgeable, having lived in the area when Bloody Sunday happened. We started in the centre of Derry and then walked out into the Bogside area, finishing at the Museum of Free Derry. George’s love for the city and its people really came through, and he allowed us plenty of time to take photos and observe the murals as well as ask questions. It was a very moving day and we came away with a deeper understanding of the conflict. Highly recommend doing this tour! See more..

    Tours of Derry image
Just had an extremely fun and informative multi-day tour with Ruairi where we did a tour of Derry, the city walls, Game of Thrones filming locations, Giants Causeway, and a day in Donegal. Ruairi had an excellent knowledge of the history of the areas and the conflict which stems from him growing up in it. He was very flexible and very willing to work with a large group of college students in the midst of the Caronavirus scare. Ruairi was also very committed to making sure my group had a great time and customized the tour to our interests. Overall, I do not think you could ask for anything more out of a tour guide and I would very much reccomend Ruairi to anyone looking for a tour guide. See more..

Fantastic trip! Recommend to anyone! We booked as a big group with a mix of adults and children, going on to Islay from Ballycastle and back. Davey or skipper was amazing! He was so kind and patient getting all our bags and whisky from our Islay tour safely stowed away. He was a wonderful skipper and even took us on a detour close to Rathlin Island to see the puffins. Very smooth and fast crossing. The boat is so new and smart, it also has shock absorbing seats inside the cabin for a very comfortable trip. We were all given lifejackets and a safety brief before starting. Breathtaking scenery and a incredible experience! Will definitely book again! See more..

    Roe Valley Country Park image
Really enjoyed our walk along the river! At the moment you can't do the round loop across the bridge as there is construction work on the far side so you can walk up and down the same side of the river! The path is a very easy walk that we saw pushchairs using. There were lots of people fishing as well. The restaurant has put social distancing measures in place. The only issue I had was that the traybakes are uncovered and staff aren't wearing masks so they breathe on the food. See more..
  25. 4.5 Bloody Sunday Memorial (285 reviews)
    - Iconic but Understated To Look At
    Monuments & Statues
    Bloody Sunday Memorial image
The Bloody Sunday Memorial was one of the first things I sought out when i visited Derry It is an easy walk onto the Bogside from tbe city walls and is located right beside the Free Derry Corner, H Block Memorial and IRA Memorial. All can be visited for free within a hundred metres of each other or so. While I found the memorial deeply moving and interesting, I was surprised by how understated it is. But I guess that's the point, these were ordinary folks going about the business of a peaceful protest so I guess an ordinary but thoughtful monument is the most appropriate commemoration. I don't know why I expected it to be grander but in a way I'm glad that it's not. Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely monument set right beside houses in a working class area, just such a sad and tragic thing to see. See more..

  29. 4.5 The Craft Village (157 reviews)
    - Lack of footfall at hidden Gem
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Historic Walking Areas
    The Craft Village image
Stumbled across Derry Craft Village as there us absolutely no sign posts or signage indicating its in the heart of Derry. 90% of the shops were closed. On a week day. Only the actual craft shops were open, the warmest welcome we received was at Derry Designer maker's, who were friendly and very informative. They are a co-op and all items in the shop are from local crafts folks. Prices very reasonable. When we inquired as to why most of the shops were closed, they couldn't tell us,but did indicate that lack of footfall in the village may contribute it this. Such a pity, as the potential for putting Derry in the limelight with crafts is fabulous. Highly recommend visiting Derry Designer Makers.... See more..
