We are so glad to visit Usambara Mountain (Lushoto) we did the trek-we got to see a part of Tanzania we never would have seen otherwise, and Halisi African Adventures did a great job to make sure we are safe and we had incredible memories. First of all our guide from Halisi African Adventures was knowledgeable and was happy to answer our (many) questions about the past and present of the Usambara region. Also was easy to communicate with prior to the trip, and was constantly making sure we were having a good time. He was also very flexible, making sure to keep us out of the rain (we didn’t have the gear for the unexpectedly prolonged rainy season) and had us hike farther than planned once he got a sense for our pace. The views during this trek were indescribable, but our guide also makes sure to spend time walking through the villages and farms so you also get a sense for the way people live. See more..

We did a 3 day hike with Usambara adventures and it was fantastic. Before booking Said (our guide) put together an itinerary based the distance we wanted to walk each day. He then arrange every last detail (food, accommodation, route) and it was all amazing. The Usambara mountains are beautiful and the people are very friendly. My top recommendation for what to do in Tanzania, and a reason to visit Tanzania in itself. Not only was Said an great guide, he's a pretty cool dude, the trip is worth it just to talk to him for a bit. We booked 2 day tours with Tupande Usambara Cultural Tours & we can definitely recommend it. First day we went with Rogers trough the Magamba Forrest to the Magamba Peak and further to the Irente Farm & Viewpoint passing the villages around Lushoto. We also saw Chameleons at our way. The hike was around 18km and took us 6-7 hours. Rogers told us a lot about the nature, animals & the culture here in Lushoto. The second day we went with Bakari to the Kisasa waterfall, for Lunch to a local restaurant in the city & after that he took us on a tour through the historical city. He told us a lot about the culture and the history of Lushoto. We can definitely recommend this office & both guides. You can hike alone as well but you will learn & see a lot more together with a guide. And they know all the trails & paths through the villages. See more..

We had a fantastic day out with our guide Chris, who showed us some stunning places in the Usamabaras that we would have never found ourselves. Chris was very progressional and came round a day before to discuss the route; he was on time, super knowledgable about the nature, wildlife, history of the region and Tanzania in general. He also prepared the most amazing picnic for us on top of a mountain with the best pineapple I ever had! Amazing experience - can’t recommend highly enough and hope to be back for more trips! Mohamed and his team did a great job! I spent a week in Tanzania with my mother, but it felt like it was a month - we saw so much during such short period of time. We were brought to breathtaking places that felt so authentic and unique. We had a lot of adventures and learnt a lot about Tanzania. In Magaroto, we were swimming in a paradise-like lake and explored the outskirts, danced and played instruments with the locals. In Tanga we snorkeled, had a picnic on a disappearing island, chilled on a boat. Right before departure, Mohamed made a spontaneous Tanga tour for us. Mohamed was very attentive to our needs and our mood. He was altering the plan on the go to make sure we get the best out of the trip. The whole team is very chilled and friendly. As we still had some free time, my guide Jerome organised a two-day trip to the Tanga region. Alfons organised the entire programme on site. Alfons took incredibly good care of me, explained a lot about traditional life in the Tanga region and answered all my questions about the entire history of Tanzania. In addition, Alfons showed me the most beautiful corners and thus made the two days a highlight of my entire trip! I would highly recommend anyone wanting to go hiking the Usambara mountain's to use Shambaa Eco Tours. The hike was done by Charles and he was an amazing guide. Very knowledgeable on all the plant species and had an amazing eye to spot chameleon's . Charles was the whole time monitoring the progress and making sure to take rest stops where needed and at every stop had amazing information about everything on the mountian range (plants,trees,people history...) A good experience with Saunuel Mgweno in Lushoto, good welcome and super nice person with his college! We had a full day experience around Lushoto, starting in Kinsasa water falls, then we went to irente viewpoint (an amazing views in the whole area) , then we climb through Maganba forest and then they take me to one village to try the local beer (made from sugar cane), the best experience to get involved in the culture itself. Our guide Chris was amazing. The Nature was beautiful and the hiking trip had the perfect length of time for me and my mother. Chris offered us stunning knowledge and facts about the area and was a great guy to chat with. We spoke about politics, education system, entrepreneurship and a lot more. Chris was very well prepared and served us very good local food and fruits. On the way i lost my phone and thought i would never get it back. Really enjoyed both climbing Kilimanjaro and safari after. This was the most comfortable and well-organized mountain climb I ever had (out of 10+ so far). Everything was great: communication, the itinerary, hotels in towns and on safari and tents on the mountain, food, guides, and safari. All of us summited and descended safely. A few of us needed covid tests for our return flights, and it was perfectly organized without affecting any other activities, and everyone got the results on time and flew back as planned. Thank you! A very great day. This visit was the right day for a great experience with my family. We have visited Mikes nice place more times and looked at his boat and seen guest bringing their fish up to the restaurant to get a nice meal out of their own catch. We decided to make our own try and we did have a exiting day. When my grandson jumped to the swinging chair and turned the wheel to get the catch on board, the day was full. Then my son also got a catch. We ended up with 6 nice fish and got a delicious meal for dinner. The other visitor came to our table and thanked us for the catch. They got their share for their meal. We are 4 friends. we came to Lushoto in favor of climbing the Usambara Mountains. We wanted to make the trip in a special way - riding motorcycles. The trip lasted 3 days in which each had its own driver and Abu led them all with great responsibility and made sure all the time that we had everything we needed and that we were all fine. He was knowledgeable, knew how to expand and answer questions and no doubt he helped beyond his role. We highly recommend this experience with Abu. And also, opting for it on motorcycles - it was a bit diverse from the rest of the hikes in the country and also allowed us to get to more points and destinations on the mountain. See more..

we had met Bakari at Lushoto bus station. First we planned to do the walk to Irente view point on our own, but he managed to convince us to take him as a guide and we have never regretted it for a moment. He took us "off the baten road", along small roads, through plantations and told us a lot about local history, culture and nature allong thewat. He also arranged lunch at Irente farm (very tasty and a lot). He pointed us to the well camouflaged chameleons and this was great fun for our kids. the next day he came by to dat hi at the bus stop! We booked 3 days Mikumi Safari With Travel With Brighton and everything was perfect. The communication with Brighton went very well, the services provided were very good the car, food, lodges Our guide and driver, Frank was a very nice and calm guy, he took care of all our needs and requests. Also, he went out of his way to find all the animals we wanted to see, including lions, and we felt very safe and secure with him. We hiked four three days with Dennis through the Usambara Mountains (we wrote a long post under Usambara Mountains). Dennis is thoughtful, knowledgeable, energetic and highly flexible. He goes to great lengths to make sure there's no ambiguity about what we're doing, and makes sure we're happy with everything. He taught us a lot of Swahili words (in fact, he just ran whole sections of the guided tour in Swahili!). He also happens to be an expert chapati maker. Try having an argument with him about how to make chapati. He'll win, for sure. See more..

Friends of Usambara Society seems to be the most trustworthy angency in town and they contribute part of the revenue back to the local community! I like it! I had an amazing tour with guide Rashidi to the forest and Irene View Point. We first passed through the villages to the forest. I was very lucky to see 7 chameleons along the way thanks to Rashidi, who is a great chameleons spotter! Then we had lunch in a beautiful farm and headed to the Irente View Point, the best part of the day! I would highly recommend guide Rashidi, with whom you might have a higher chance to see chameleons! He’s also very knowledgeable about the plants and animals. Kasa divers is an amazing dive center with acces to astonishing dive sites around Maziwe Island. I was impressed about the state of the dive equipment and the level of service I received during my open water course. The dive instructor is a true dive professional and deeply involved in marine conservation. The turtle project they run is really nice to learn more about. I was particularly impressed about the patience and dedication to details during my dive course and I am not an easy pupil! Next time I will bring my kids to get their dive course! See more..
