Convent of Lady of Saidnaya image
The Convent of Lady of Saidnaya is a must see site while visiting the famous city of Saidnaya or spelled: Saydnaya. The large Convent was built by the Byzantine emperor Justinian I and contains the famous “Icon of the All-Holy Virgin” and has been rumored to have been the site of several visions of Mary. This is a very impressive building and requires a great deal of walking up to its’ main entrance. They have just installed an elevator, but we did not use it as I felt we needed a bit of exercise! Once you enter this nunnery you are amazed how beautiful the entire building is and how well it has with stood the ‘test of time’. Don’t miss the visit to the very small chapel just to the right of the main entrance. Plan to spend at least an hour touring the various areas of the monastery. See more..

One of the oldest Monasteries in all of Syria is located in the old city of Maaloula in central Syria and is called: The Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus Monastery and claims to be over 2,000 years old and dating back to the early 3rd to 4th Century. The main building of the monastery and its contents were destroyed by the various resistance groups that had occupied the old city of Maaloula during the Syrian Civil War. Maaloula remains today one of the only major teaching centers within the World where one can still learn the ancient language of Christ…Aramaic. You can always enjoy a visit to: The Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus Monastery during any season. One should not miss visiting the Saint Sergius and Bacchus Monastery while visiting the old city of Maaloula. You will not be sorry…trust me. See more..
