  1. 4.5 Resafa (3 reviews)
    - One of the best places to see in Syria, and relatively little known
    Ancient Ruins

Rusafa, ancient Resafa, was also called Sergiopolis. It's because it was the town of saint soldiers Sergius and Bacchus, always depicted in pair. It is located somewhat south from the cities of Ar-Raqqa and Ath-Thawra, south from Euphrates too, on the desert. The city is completely dried up apart from one part of the basilica which, due to its position, is protected from the sun and is covered in green. There is a small building in front of the gate. Apart from that, all of the monuments are inside completely extant (with many towers) city walls, which are, however, a bit injured. The gate is magnificent, with beautiful ornamentation of the capitels of the columns and arches. There are several churches in the city, one with a nice decorated arch, some with circular scares and apses. There are underground water cisterns in the further right corner. But the most magnificent place in Rusafa is the basilica or Ss Sergius and Bacchus. It is huge, and while it misses the roof, it is very well preserved, with all the walls and collumns. But only in place or two, in an arch of a window etc, you can see that it was once covered with paintings. Not it's just a sandy stone. The capitels in the basilica are much more primitive than in the gate. You can get a nice shot of it from the city walls. There are lots of lizards around, which the children would probably like, just as I did. I've been there twice and wouldn't mind visiting it again. Some of the pics shown under Resafa at this site do not come from it, but from Al-Ga'bar castle on the Euphrates. See more..
  2. 4.0 Tabqa Dam (1 review)
    - Great view, even had bungie jumping, will update soon
    Dams

It's a great view, there even a group operator a bungie jumping attraction. I'm not too sure on their crudentials as they all have their faces covered, but they do seem incredibly popular as they have trucks full of people in orange jumpsuits lining up for their turn, although understandably they all seem a bit nervous and almost unwilling to do it lol, must be a stag do or something. They also seem to be recording each person so they can remember their experience which is nice. I'm being approached by two of the bungie operators now, I think they're going to try and get me to try it as well? What the heck, why not, I'll update this review when it's over See more..
