   this town is well worth 2-3 hours as an example of many roman cities in the Sweida governorate, which is an open meuseum of classic are and civilisation (examples Canatha, Sii, Sweida, Shakka, Shahba). this is the birth place of the Roman empire Philippe the Arab, and is famous for 1-the Philippeone (the family funerary temple) 2-The emperial Palace (the Kalippe) 3-the middle size well preserved roman theatre (can accomodate 2000 people) 4-the large roman baths. 5-most importantly the large roman villa that was converted into a meuseum to preserve the wonderful mosaics in their original location as room ground..not an exageration to say that these mosaics are the finest classic mosaics found anywhere in the world See more..

Qanawat is a great example of the area's magnificent classic history..every single village in that area has ancient roman and greek monuments.. in this town make sure you visit the nymphaeum, the theater, the basilica structure..etc other site in the area is Shahba..you can see both towns in one day excursion from damascus..also the roman Odion in Sweida and the meuseum of Sweida can be included in that trip..
