Absolutely recommended. The museum is dedicated to Chelyabinsk tractor plant and its role in the development of the city and of the whole country, as well as its key role in war production during WW2. Knowledge of russian is preferrable for a more thourough experience. I went to the museum alone and without reserving a tour, I found out with pleasure that not only the visit is for free, but I got showed around by the museum director, a very prepared and kind lady, who managed to leave me deeply impressed with the factory and city history. Beautiful parc where Russian are doing barbecue even in winter. I've tried to reach the Parc with Google maps with the bus and I had to cross by foot an highway to get there. Its difficult to get there without a car, be prepared to walk a bit in some suburbs of the city,which seems to be not a really recommended area. See more..

I joined in a tour organised by a Miass based tour agency "Горизонты Урала". We were nine in the group and went for a hike to one of the view points. (Двухглавная сопка) The weather was very cold in the morning (-25C), but during the day it warmed up to -12C. Apropriate clothing, good footwear strongly advaced. Upon entering the National Park, registration is needed. It is also possible to rent a room/place to sleep in the territory of the park. The paths were well maintained, it was possible to proceed even if the snow was deep beside the paths. One of the drawbacks is, that the toilet at the resting place was not looked after. It was a traditional wooden toilet in the "open", but they forgot to dig a new hole after this filled up. No alternatives were offered. Though, it was possible to leave backpacks and excess weight by the resting place before the "summit" walk. All in all, a very good experience and strongly adviced to nature lovers. See more..

The weir on the Iset river was the beginning of Yekaterinburg. It was built in 1723 by the orders of Vasily Tatishchev (see the nearby monument to him and his successor Georg de Gennin) to provide power to the iron works established here. Today the low dam, which separates the city pond from the historical square, is a favourite meeting place for locals, but also beloved by individuals, who just want some quiet, seated on one of the benches or steps here and meditating by looking over the water. The weir here is called 'Plotinka' and the busy Lenin Avenue goes over it. At the park behind the dam can be visited the Water Tower, built in the 1880's for the railway factory that had replaced the iron works. Next to it is the Monument to the City's Founders, unveiled in 1998. By the city pond are stalls selling ice cream or corn cobs, there are lone fishermen, flowerbeds, a cast iron rotunda and further back the richly decorated Sevastyanov's House. See more..

One of the coolest museums of regional studies in Russia! It is situated in the modern looking building on the shore of the Miass river. The plaque on the outside wall of the museum tells about the leading role of the first governor of the Chelyabinsk oblast in the development of this museum. The museum gets groups of schoolchildren. Really fascinating museum of a Russian actor of whom the building is named after. If you buy a ticket to the lookout, admission is included. His original Merc, and many Soviet antiques and memorabilia are on show. It helps if you can read Russian and learn about his rise to fame. There is also a fairly good replica of his apartment. Worth a visit, especially in winter to stay out of the cold. The toilets for this museum are tucked upstairs behind a small corridor. See more..
