    - Determined, glorious and beautiful
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
High-relief on the Ruins on Mamayev Hill image
Love the massive Soviet monumental art or not, you cannot leave this place without an impression. My impression was they made a glorious huge reliefs in honor of their victory which they're so proud of. This monument, better say complex of monuments is at the second flight of stairs (out of total 200 stairs which mark number of days the battle for Stalingrad lasted) leading to the imposing Motherland Calling sculpture. On both sides of these stairs are huge, larger than life reliefs of soldiers with sharp and serious faces determined to fight for their homeland. While climbing the stairs the Motherland statue becomes bigger and bigger which is an impressive effect and great op for many pics. See more..
  4. 5.0 Soothe My Sorrows (93 reviews)
    - Impressive colourful church
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Soothe My Sorrows image
The chapel-church at the Bishop's House of the Saratov Lords was built in 1906. There was only one throne - in honor of the icon of the Mother of God "Consolation in sorrows and sorrows." The people also called the church "Satisfy my sorrows." During the years of Soviet power, the building was preserved almost in its original form, but the Saratov Planetarium was opened here. The architecture of the hip-roofed church on three rows of kokoshniks with two symmetrically located vestibules fits well into the architectural ensemble of the center of Saratov. Most impressive is the fact that the large tent is surrounded by numerous motley decorated small domes, in imitation of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. Measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19: thermometry at the entrance, the requirement to maintain social distance, wear a mask. If the review was helpful to you, please like it! See more..

    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Old Hurul/ Buddist Tample image
It's one of the most magic places I've visited in my life. of course, it's possibly because my origin is in Kalmykia, but still. So, the story is following: after the religion started to recover in Kalmykia, the temple was build, and visited by Dalai Lama. Then, when the new Temple was build in the center of Elista, it became too far away for citizens to visit this one, So, none, except buddistic monks are around, Just the nature, steppe and you. Silence, sun, and wooden made buddistic temple with amazing pictures and unbelievable energy around, It's 6 km from the city. You just come, and hear the wind and atmosphere. I really recommend! 7. 5.0 Square of Grief (72 reviews)
    - Russian Pieta.
    Monuments & Statues
    Square of Grief image
This monument to Eugene Vuchetich could be called the Russian Pieta by analogy with the famous sculpture of Michelangelo in the Cathedral of San Pietro. The real prototype of the Russian Pieta could be Epistinia Fyodorovna Stepanova. All 9 sons of Epistinia Stepanova fought on the fronts of the Civil War, the Battle of Khalkhin Gol and the Second World War. Only one returned from the war disabled and subsequently died of wounds. The other 8 sons died while performing their military duty. Two sons Ilya and Alexander (junior) they participated in the Battle of Stalingrad and survived, but died the following year at the Kursk Bulge and the crossing of the Dnieper. Alexander received the highest military award of the country, becoming a posthumous hero of the Soviet Union. See more..

This impressive station was built in 1954 in the Stalinist Empire style. Sculptural compositions are located at the entrance and above the vault; the building is richly decorated inside. Now access to the station is through a separate building with metal detectors. There are many automatic lockers in the basement. In general, an ordinary old Soviet station. See more..

  15. 4.5 Pavlov's House (141 reviews)
    - This is NOT the Mill
    Historic Sites
    Pavlov's House image
I see many reviews and pics here (even the TA head pic) show the Pavlov house as the old ruined Mill. It is not that, but the one across it, towards the Lenin square. The Pavlov house is situated after the Lenin monument behind the circular colonnade and before the Mill/Museum complex. You'll recognize it with old corner bricks left by a new built peach color house. It's a solemn memorial to a handful of resistance men fighting the outnumbered Nazi enemy for two months. See more..
  16. 4.5 Astrakhan State Opera and Ballet Theatre (134 reviews)
    - It`s fantastic !
    Ballets • Operas • Theaters
Astrakhan State Opera and Ballet Theatre image
The theatre provides the ability to create not only performances of any complexity, but also to organize socially important events: appointments, meetings, exhibitions and so on. The infrastructure around the theatre is unique. The theatre is situated in the park, which is currently planned to redesign on the basis of historical drawings. The botanical garden with many fountains, pools, playgrounds for children and labyrinths will be there. The theatre district of the town is formed there, which could be compared with such temples of world theatrics as La Scala in Milan (Italy), Covent Garden in London (UK), Grand Opera in Paris (France) etc. Thus, the Astrakhan State Music Theatre is a large complex, a place of cultural recreation and education of Astrakhan citizens and guests. 18. 4.5 Museum Pamyat (85 reviews)
    - Many installations on the theme of the events of 1942-1943
    Sunday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums
    Museum Pamyat image
The museum is located in the very center of the city near the railway station. You need to go around the Intourist hotel, and in the courtyard you will see an inconspicuous signboard and a simple iron door. The museum is small compared to the panorama of the battle of Stalingrad, but successfully complements it with many installations on the theme of the events of 1942-1943. Definitely worth a visit! See more..
  19. 4.5 Park Pobedy (81 reviews)
    - Victory Park
Spent More than 3 hours Parks
    Park Pobedy image
We visited as part of a group tour. The park offers a wonderful panorama over the city of Saratov, has a very nice war memorial with an eternal flame and has an extensive collection of vehicles from WW2 and later spread around a large area. The main feature of the park is a column with 12 stylised cranes (the birds). The vehicles cover mainly Soviet vehicles and include many from the Cold War era as well as WW2. There is one German Tiger tank & a very decrepit German half track. The Soviet armoured train is a nice touch! Lots of aircraft and helicopters (all later than WW2) and Soyuz and Vostok capsules. Also a memorial to firefighters. See more..
