   The key exhibit here is an allegorical picture showing St Ignatius and his acolytes lording it over the world. St Ignatius and his priests ruined indigenous communities and their cultures across the world for generations. It was brave of Paraguay to expel them.    This refuge has many animals that rescued from the building of the dam. A young student guided us through the park and gave lots of information. The project is trying to save some of the animals and tress from extinction. It is free and worth the time to go through it. Suggestion- take mosquito spray. See more..

   If you are interested in the Jesuit story and the Ruta Jesuita, San Ignacio and Santa Rosa are a great halfway point from Asuncion to Encarnacion and the larger Missions. This little museum explains the Jesuits dedication of a chapel to the Virgin of Loreto as well as demonstrating the struggle of a small community attempting to preserve their heritage without much federal assistance. They have a story to share. There is a park across the street for small children to run some energy out. San Ignacio has more hotels to choose from. Don't be discouraged if the museum is closed.    Santiago is a lovely mission town and the church is very pleasant. The town is very clean and has many historic buildings and murals on town walls. The 'old church' is just a termite mound but the current church is a pretty building. We are pleased that we called in to see the town and recommend a short visit. See more..
