- 5.0 Mision Jesuita de San Cosme y San Damian (38 reviews)
-Monument to a social and religious experiment
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
This site features massive physical evidence of a social and religious oasis in this former Spanish colony. Our knowledgeable guide took the view that this was a benign village providing shelter from slave-hunters from Brazil. But no doubt it was also a place of Catholic indoctrination. The Spanish crown saw the increasing influence of the Jesuits as a threat and evicted the Jesuits in 1767. While the Jesuits were only a handful, the social experiment fell apart after they left. This venue has a twist to it: a planetarium which includes an ingenious mechanical model to illustrate planetary movements. See more..
- 5.0 National Park Cordillera San Rafael (6 reviews)
-Beautiful Atlantic forest. Pure nature.
National Parks
This is one of the last parts of Atlantic Forest left in Paraguay. Due to the efforts of Hans and Christine from Pro cosara this paradise still exists. You can contact them for a stay or even better do what we did and book a tour with Fauna Paraguay in Encarnacion. Our guide was Paul Smith. A specialist in birds and overall knowledge of nature and this specific ecosystem. I was well worth to do this tour. Seen a lot of beautiful things and is and the food at Pro Cosara was the best we had in Paraguay. Us being vegetarians. Go there if you love nature and support the work of Pro Cosara if you can. Great. See more..

-Majestic and Quiet
Friday: 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM Ancient Ruins
A very quiet place to walk around and sense the history of this Jesuit mission. The night time video on the inside wall of the unfinished cathedral was really awesome - standing there in the center of the "ruins" and watching under the stars. Really worth staying for. See more..

- 4.5 Playa Tacuary (13 reviews)
-This is an absolute gem, hidden from the masses, never imagined a beach in Paraguay
Spent 2-3 hours Beaches
Carmen Del Parana is a hidden treasure, there are beaches, soft sand, a great small "high street" further up where you can get most of your supplies, a hospital, schools, a whole friendly community, even an art gallery. The supermarket very well stocked and very friendly staff. I've got to get back to the locals who are so friendly. Bird watchers, you've got to come here. Don't come here if you want bright lights and have to be amused, here you entertain yourself. Felt very safe, make sure you know some Spanish, had no problems with phone signal. See more..

Friday: 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites
This mission was founded in 1685 by Jesuit father Jeronimo Delfin. In 1993, it was declared as a World cultural heritage of UNESCO. Recently, we provide new attraction which is '3D Video Mapping Show' at 19:30, on every thursday to sunday. See more..
- 4.5 Parque Ecologico Ita Cajon (4 reviews)
-Nice view over the ruins
Spent 1-2 hours Parks • Forests
We walked for 15 minutes from the ruins of Trinidad to get here. Unfortunately, we passed the entrance and paid 20.000 Gs per person to 'enter'. Later, we discovered you can just walk in from any other side WITHOUT paying. I advise you to do that so you can enjoy the view even more. See more..

City Tours • Multi-day Tours • Taxis & Shuttles • Hiking & Camping Tours • Private Tours • Day Trips
See more..

- 4.0 Plaza de Armas (80 reviews)
-Relax and Enjoy
Points of Interest & Landmarks
Right on El Centro area, it is a very nice place to go and relax, seated under the nice shady trees. There is a Japanese garden in one of the Plaza corners. Kids and teenagers love to go there. It is surrounded by Banks, stores, restaurants. On saturday you can take a ride in one of the horse and carts that park there and go sightseeing. There are some monuments (if you are into history). I think anybody will enjoy going to the Plaza. See more..

- 4.0 Casino Carnaval (13 reviews)
-Loved Carnaval in Encarnacion
Spent More than 3 hours Casinos
The Carnaval in Encarnacion is on every Friday and Saturday night during the festival period. You can buy tickets at the gate or from touts on the streets outside the gates however better deals are had by buying your ticket beforehand from one of many outlets downtown (includes most bottle shops). It was absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend it. Amazing costumes, floats, music and atmosphere. Surprisingly it was easy, not too crowded, sitting spaces, food, cheap drinks, friendly people. A perfect way to experience Carnaval in South America. See more..

- 4.0 Mini Zoologico Juan XXII (2 reviews)
-good way to see native animals up close
Friday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Zoos
as its title suggests, this is a mini zoo, but if you have only half an hour, a good way to see a variety of native animals and birds up close. the entry fee was just 5000 a person, less than one US dollar. I felt sorry for the big cats, as their cages were too small, but you did actually get to see them close up. There were many different birds, and monkeys, crocodiles, tapirs, etc. there were name cards up on the cages with information on the animals, written in Spanish. See more..
