We had the best time in Kyrgyzstan with Aman as our guide. He’s an absolute treasure trove of local knowledge, from history to cuisine. Great sense of humour too. Nothing was ever a problem for him to adapt our program to individual needs. We snowboarded, horse trekked, interacted with hunting dogs and eagles, stayed in a Yurt, visited hot pools and a horse matchplay arena, and hung out with the locals in a vibrant market. And ate like absolute kings. Kyrgyzstan is very much still off the mass tourism trail, so I would highly recommend getting there soon while it’s still so inexpensive. I did a three days tour with Жоомарт and would do it any time again!! Without his help and caring attitude I could not get into contact with the locals. Salkun-Tur is a large national park just outside Naryn City. I was there on a July Sunday, and there were only a handful of other people there, almost all of them picnicing near the entrance. I hiked into the park along the river, and was all alone in the beautiful mountains after 20 minutes of hiking. The trail is steep in places, but passes through beautiful scenery. True name is Kok-Tethri; or also know as "Kol Suu". Kok-Tethri is the actual name of this amazing mountain high blue meters long lake! This is truly an isolated treasure that you need to visit! Permits are required at least 1-2 days in advance, and transportation will be expensive as the roads to Kok-Tethri are very poor and there isn't fuel for long distances of time. You can trek through the mountains, rocks, or even kayak on the water! The summer season is short at such high elevations, but worth the trip. Our trip was horse riding to Song Kul lake, contacted on Instagram with local tour company Kyzart Travel. In yhe morning I met my tour guide and driver from Kochkor, driving 1 hr to starting point. Started for the incredibly horse riding to Song kul lake. In Kyrgyzstan you keep thinking the scenery can’t get more beautiful, but even in October, the country keeps amazing me. Beautiful mountain valleys, small villages. There was still snow on the mountain pass where we stopped for a little break to enjoy the views. From the top of the pass I could already see Song kul lake in the distance. The journey had been just as spectacular as the lake. In yurt staying wad great experience, in the evening we possible to see beautiful sunset. Best to do the trip over 2 days if you bring your own camping gear (there's no type of camp site in the mountain). Trek starts from local village Bash-Kaindae in the At-Bashy region, and is considered to be a hidden gem; not too many individuals know about it! We climbed the Ala Mischuk on one of our days around Naryn when we were there in August 2017. If you are in relatively good shape and prepared, you shouldn’t have any issues making the climb, we were up and back in about 6hours with a leisurely lunch break at the top and some water breaks along the way. Coming down is always faster than going up, our equipment slowed us a bit but we still made pretty good time but still took time to enjoy the beautiful views and take it all in.
