Chatyr Kol - "Heaven Lake"
"Heavenly Lake" - is located on the border of Kyrgyzstan and China. Lake is located between the ranges "Bashi" and "Torugart-Too" at an altitude of 3530 meters above sea level. The lake area is 153.5 square kilometers, and the volume of water - 610 million cubic meters. The coastal lines- 58 km. The greatest depth of 16 m. The lake - without fish.

Beautiful lake, amazing experience!
We hiked from Tash Rabat to the lake and back in 2 days on our own, no guide, no horses, just us, a map and the tent. It took us 7 h to get there (to the lake itself) and 5 h to walk back. The hike is definitely not easy with a backpack. The view from the pass is nice, but even more spectacular when you are closer to the lake. The colours are so amazing and you don't have to share this beautiful place with anyone! Tourists mostly just go to the pass and then back to Tash Rabat. It was difficult to get information in Naryn, they (CBT/Kubat Tours) said there were no yurts on the north side of the lake, but we saw 3 families and 2 of them offered to stay with them. We wanted a car that would pick us up on the north side of the lake and then drive to Kol Suu, but CBT/Kubat Tours couldn't arrange it, they said the road was too bad. We ended up driving back to Naryn from Tash Rabat and then to Kol Suu instead of going directly from Chatyr-Kul. Maybe you are more lucky when you speak Kyrgyz and find your own driver.

Cool chatter
We were lucky enough to get to Chatyr-Kul Lake when we were in the area last summer and it really is a heavenly place. It is a beautiful lake, huge area for a bird sanctuary so access is a bit limited to actually go to the lake. Beautiful, soaring mountains tower over you as you go and there are not a lot of tourists around so you can hike in peace but be sure to come prepared as well since you are hiking solitary but there are tour companies in the area if you get into trouble.
