I was recently at the museum of Revolution in Perquin (Morazan) and after I heard all the true stories of the people who lived these events, and I would say, it´s really sad what people can do to people when they are trained to do harm, it really gets me thinking how rough life can be. I taught that every single detailed this guy said must be in their minds like it was yesterday. This is a Must do visit if you come to El Salvador, and if you want to know about our history, the civil war! See more..

At the site of the monument in 1981, close to 1,000 innocent civilians were massacred by the U.S. trained(School of Americas) -Salvadoran military. Half of the victims were children. There was a sole survivor who told her harrowing account to many across the world since the Salvadoran and US governments were trying to suppress the information. This was not the first nor last massacre that occurred during the civil war that last but it was the largest. Learn the story from the volunteer tour guides but please, remember to tip them and buy something from their gift shop. See more..

This is apparently one of El Salvadors historic sites worth visiting and i don't think it is promoted enough. We went out of curiosity - coming in on the road from the La Union road - one hour of dust and bumps. Not particularly scenic as the Lonely Planet had us to believe either. This visit proved disappointing as when we finally arrived at the gates (from this direction drive straight through the town, down a steep hill to a bridge - across and along the dust road) it was shut! Half past two on a Thursday... it should have been open. So the recommendation was to come on a morning - we agree. We made a second trip, back from our trip up to Perquin. Now the road via Cacopera was amazing! the best road in El Salvador with a wonderful view...which did entice us to try the cave once again as it was so pretty (this road you can get to off the Perquin road off right before a pedestrian footbridge - not signed posted. You enter Corinto passing its cemetery on your left and turn right to go downhill. Cross the roads, until you can't go further, turn left and go downhill to go over the bridge). it takes 45 minutes from Perquin road to Corinto. the visit to the square is worth it, incidentally. So the cave - this time they were open and wow! A huge cave with quite a few paintings in red and yellow - you have to look hard - and they look very childlike, but they are very old... and the height of some of them makes you question how they got to paint them so high. An added bonus was meeting Argelio who mans the place, half of the time. He is so knowledgeable - but all in Spanish. He is a wonderful chap who is very proud of the caves. Give him a ring to make sure the gates are open - 79052777. Currently it is free to get in, but there are plans to charge - which i think are quite valid considering! See more..
