A Masacre Never to be Forgotten

At the site of the monument in 1981, close to 1,000 innocent civilians were massacred by the U.S. trained(School of Americas) -Salvadoran military. Half of the victims were children. There was a sole survivor who told her harrowing account to many across the world since the Salvadoran and US governments were trying to suppress the information. This was not the first nor last massacre that occurred during the civil war that last but it was the largest. Very moving monument to a civil war massacre
We visited Mozote on a recommendation. It was moving, commemorating an awful event - the slaughter of innocent men, women, and children by the then-government during the civil war 35 years ago. An older lady gave us a moving account in Spanish (you either know Spanish or bring an interpreter). Worth a visit but at the end of the day, not the beginning as knowing the details will color the rest of your day.
