I truly cannot say enough about our trip to El Salvador, facilitated and made excellent by Robert and Gringo tours. From our first step outside of the airport, Robert and team assured our transport to Suchitoto was quick and easy, and invited us into his home the day before our offical tour (the day after Christmas) During a walking tour of Suchitoto, his love of and investment into the city was apparent, as was the degree to which his community loves him right back. My fiance and I are sponges for information about the places we visit, and Robert demonstrated near encyclopedic knowledge of everything from the history and archicture, to land use and urban planning policy in Suchitoto, Salvador city, and the country overall. This knowledge of El Salvador, blended with the "Gringo" background, was a combination found only in the highest end of tour guides. While El Salvador has historically had a less than positive reputation, we felt safer during our time with Robert and Gringo tours than we do back home in California. Should you take a trip to El Salvador (and we wholeheartedly recommend you do), you couldn't possibly do better than taking a tour with Robert and Gringo tours. See more..

-Must do experience in Suchitoto
Multi-day Tours • Eco Tours • Sightseeing Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours • Speed Boats Tours
We went on a sunrise birding tour with Rene on Lake Suchitan on Christmas Eve and it was truly splendid - we saw over 48 different species of bird as the sun came up across the Lake. Rene knew just where to look to find each different bird and shared his extensive knowledge of bird life, flora and the local history. It was a brilliant trip and is a must do experience if you visit Suchitoto. The early start well worth it for the tranquil lake and the abundance of beautiful birds. Rene is a great guide and very welcoming. Morning coffee watching the spoonbills and marsh swallows. Magic See more..

-Fascinating Suchitoto Tour
Saturday: 5:00 AM - 7:00 PM City Tours • Cultural Tours • Boat Tours • Eco Tours • Hiking & Camping Tours
Suchitoto is a lovely little town with plenty to see for such a small piece. We took two trips organised by Daniel - one to meet guerilla number 11 from the Civil War followed by a hike around his hideouts, and one around the town seeing how indigo cloth is dyed and local cigars are rolled, amongst other things. Daniel was very engaging (especially if you ask him about his music!), spoke very eloquent English, and was generally great company. Listening to Don Rafael was spellbinding, and swimming by the waterfall and polishing off a delicious BBQ made it a fabulous day. Highly recommended! See more..

-Imperdible visita en Suchitoto
Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums
-Funky as all giddy-up
Spent 2-3 hours Bars & Clubs • Wine Bars
This is a really nice bar and the staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. We didn't have dinner but ordered some bar snacks and they were great. Prices are reasonable and there is a normal variety of drinks including wines, beers, spirits and cocktails. But what makes it a little more special? The decor.... just fab. See more..

-Beautiful and we learned a lot!

It was recommended to us to visit the Centro Arte Para La Paz when we were there in 2014. The Sister who works there was unfortunately away the day we visited, but we still had a wonderful visit and learned much about El Salvador and the Suchitoto area, its history and about the people. Peaceful gardens to walk through and there were guitar lessons going on while we were there. Wonderful to hear the sounds of children playing their instruments! See more..

- 4.0 Los Tercios Waterfall (57 reviews)
-Cool waterfall, fun to go with the tourist police
Waterfalls
This won't take much time and is worth an hour and a half of your time. I went when the water wasn't running but it was still cool. The rock formations are interesting and different. The hike down is short but a bit treacherous - you need to walk on big rock piles. Like I said though it is a short trip down so not exhausting. There is also a neat lookout point at the top - great for photos. I highly recommend this trip and definitely don't pay anyone to take you. The tourist police do a fine job and it's fun to get a photo with them at the end. See more..

- 4.0 Teatro Alejandro Cotto (6 reviews)
-Great example of old El Salvador architecture
Theaters
This lovely home in the middle of Suchitoto is a must see if you are in this town. The house and courtyards are fabulous and the view from the lower garden of Rio Lempo is really gorgeous. We went without a guide and the cost was 1.00 for nationals and 3.00 for foreigners. The antiques are beautiful and I could have spent an hour just looking at the artwork in the dining room. Alejandro Cotto was a film maker and if you enjoy old Latino cinema there is quite of collection of signed photos from stars. My only wish is that all the pools and fountains would be functional. This would truly be a showstopper with just a bit more maintenance. Visit this house so they can raise the money to do this! See more..
- 3.0 Museo De La Moneda (1 review)

Speciality Museums
Located in a large house in front of Parque San Martin. The main attraction is a collection of coins and other types of money from El Salvador and from around the world. Most of the items in the currency collection are not in "mint" condition but the variety makes up for it. See more..
