I am offended by the inclusion of the ‘Vatican’ in its name. It’s far superior, very tasteful, many references to Chinese mythology. Huge grounds, huge statue, beautiful spotless building complex. I’m in awe of the ornateness, the money and care spent on its construction and upkeep. It would counter your previous concepts (if any) of an authoritarian and atheist government. Xue’s Garden was built in Wuxi in the late Qing Dynasty. The owner was Mr. Xue, he was the ambassador to Britain, France, Italy and Belgium. When we visited this luxurious mansion, I can see the rational layout, fine carving of each room; even the lanterns in main hall (for receiving guest) or family living room are different. The mansion has over 100 rooms and a few gardens. The guide told us Mr. Xue passed away before he could enjoy this place. On the day we went it was not packed with tourists. This is part of the Wuxi Film and TV base where they have San Guo City, Shui Hu City, and Tang City. The cities are film sets used to film various shows. There are also amusement park rides, food, and souvenir shops scattered throughout. And of course, there are no shortage of "pay to dress up and take a picture" places here. Unfortunately there are no tours available in English, but grab a map and explore the town on your own (without having watched the shows, it probably wont be of much interest anyway). The real highlight of these towns is watching the live shows offered. In San Guo, the "big" show is the "Three Heroes Fight Lu Bu". It has a large cast and they "fight" on horseback. I would recommend spending the majority of your time watching the live shows. See more..

While every city has a pedestrian zone, what makes this different is that it is comprised of several streets separated by canals. The narrowness of the canal streets (though not of the main road) gives it a more intimate feeling, with some nice tea places and few more unique shops than usual in such touristy areas. There are several bars along the main road so it can also get lively at night, although the bars are pretty clearly touristy bars. At night it's quite pretty as shown in the photos. While compared to most touristy "old town" zones it has more unique stores, it is also very clearly touristy, unlike say the pedestrian zone in Guangzhou, where you can find some of the more famous local restaurants. As one end is anchored by where the Nikko hotel is, expats can find expat-oriented restaurants there, if one is not into local fare, and make the trip an entire evening out. See more..

Really pretty views with the red lanterns over the canal. Well worth a visit. One side of the bridge is much more touristy and lit up. Be sure to cross the bridge to the older side which is a quaint village that also has cute shops and small restaurants. Have visited a lot of such pedestrian streets in China and this one is worth it due to the quaint side. Come at dusk so you can see the night view and the lit up streets. See more..

It was an amazing experience and , although, we had no knowledge of any films that were filmed at the base we still enjoyed all the shows, especially the fighting one at the end and it was definitely not crucial to have any background knowledge. I always thought that this strange building was the opera house of Wuxi, a theatre. Insteade inside is hidden a big and well designed museum. Building is divided in three section: central hall, right and left sides. On the right side there is the historical museum. Four floors that describe Wuxi' cultures, origin and traditional arts&crafts. Most of the main information are provided either in chinese or in english, so it is easy also for foreign people to know the main facts. Central hall presents the 3D cinema. Because of this, it feels like you're walking through a studio set, which is rather interesting. There are trams which take guests on short tours, but walking is easy, too. There are a few diversions, including some small rides for children, boat excursions on the lake, costumed photo opportunities, and a rather impressive live equestrian show. 美美的早餐后，我们前往坐拥着太湖岸边最美风景的鼋头渚游玩，虽然没有春季浪漫的樱花和夏季激情的花菖蒲，但冬季的鼋头渚可以观鸟。
我们到的时候已经十点多了，先是坐景区内的巴士到位于樱舞荷韵广场的“鼋渚明珠”飞行体验馆看了动感球幕数字影片，该片融入神话故事和绚丽的CG特效，震撼绚丽，观众在影院特制座椅上置身于圆穹之中，打破时空界限，穿越四季，纵横太湖。在短短几分钟的时间内，体验古典与现代的融合，现实与虚拟的碰撞，惊险与唯美的更迭。
接着，我们又来到毗邻的码头，登船去太湖仙岛。鼋头渚及太湖仙岛的美景自不在话下了，乘船沿途上万只成群结队的红嘴鸥盘旋真是蔚为壮观，渡轮上的人们或向空中抛洒鸟食，或者拍照打卡，而成群的红嘴鸥上下起舞追逐，在空中轻松地叼食，形成一道靓丽的风景。
整个鼋头渚的冬季观鸟活动，可以延续到来年的开春。观鸟需要乘坐的往返太湖仙岛的轮渡，也无须再单独购票的。景区入园的门票中，已经包含了轮渡船票，只要记得轮渡的末班船开船的时间，游客尽可以放心地在鼋头渚半岛与太湖仙岛之间穿梭往返。
