   This was my favourite place in Tibet. It is a long drive over a rough gravel road to get there (on the plus side, you will see some nice countryside too, but a 4x4 vehicle is recommended). The view you get will depend on the weather. We were very fortunate on this trip that we had perfect weather and were able to enjoy a perfect view of it. The only disappointing aspect was the amount of litter around the place, and the road in. It is a shame that n o one cleans it up, and that so many tourists don mind dropping rubbish everywhere. Be a responsible traveller and take your rubbish back to the hotel or nearest bin etc. The restaurant near base camp looks basic, but serves up a pretty good feed too. See more..

   Appartiene all'ordine Gelugpa, fu fondato nel 1266; purtroppo nel 1959 è stato raso al suolo dai cinesi.
   Quando siamo andati noi ferveva ancora la ricostruzione, cmq la sua visita non merita, all’interno c’è solo una piccola sala che non ha nulla a che vedere con la ricchezza degli altri monasteri; in compenso sono molto suggestive le rovine dello Dzong (o Forte di Cristallo) arroccato su un’alta rupe al di sopra del monastero.    Part of any trip to Tingri country is a visit to the top pf Gyatso-La Pass (altitude approx. 5,200m). Early birds who leave Tingri around 6:30 to 7:00 am and drive to the top of the pass can, if weather permits, see the first rays of the sun lighting up Mt. Makalu, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Everest as well as Mt. Gyachen Kang and Mt. Cho Oyu. Some great photos can be made but be warned.... I was there end of October, the weather was great but the morning cold was really biting.
