    Karakul Lake image
Magical high-altitude lake. Karakul Lake is 3,600 meters above sea level. One of my photos includes Muztag Peak, which is shaped like a white-haired old man lying there (in the reflection off the water). See more..
  3. 4.5 Kashgar Live Stock Market (108 reviews)
    - A Superb Experience
    Flea & Street Markets
    Kashgar Live Stock Market image
My wife and I scheduled our flight out of Kashgar in the late afternoon just so we could experience the Livestock Market. It is well worth the experience to see a real local cultural activity. All sorts of animals being sold and there is lots of good food to be had. Try the fresh noodles, you will not be disappointed. See more..
  4. 4.5 North Jiefang Road Market (36 reviews)
    - Good place to see local food culture
    Flea & Street Markets
    North Jiefang Road Market image
Many kind of food, drinks and desserts are selling here. Some of them you may not know the ingredient. And need a lot of bravery to eat them. Some food just like a food served in an old-famous tv program " Fear Factor". But it is part of the culture. So enjoy it! See more..

  6. 4.5 Hongqilafu Mountain Boundary Marker (10 reviews)
    - Checkpoint moved back
    Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Monuments & Statues
    Hongqilafu Mountain Boundary Marker image
The drive up to the checkpoint is beautiful and interesting. Unfortunately the checkpoint has been pushed further down the mountain on the Chinese side. The reason our Uighur tour guide gave was that because of US drone bombings on the Pakistan side the level of security has had to increase and the Chinese can no longer allow casual visitors access to the actual border. 7. 4.5 Kala Kunlun Mountain (8 reviews)
    - Majestic Mongolian marvel
    Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Mountains

This is part of a spectacular mountain range, the longest in Asia. Based on all the tourist buses we saw, it appears to be a fairly popular location. See more..
  8. 4.5 Shipton's Arch (6 reviews)
    - Must visit!
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Geologic Formations
    Shipton's Arch image
Photos do not do justice to this amazing place! You have to see it for yourselves! We booked a day trip with China Silk Road Tours. It was a 2-hour drive from Kashgar and another 2 hours hiking up and down. The hike up was not too bad - terrain was mostly rock, with some stairs and snow/ice (in winter). I would recommend bringing snacks and water as there were no shops around. Because it was winter, my husband and I had the whole place to ourselves. It was just magical! See more..
  9. 4.5 Amannishahan Memorial Mausoleum (2 reviews)
    - Music for the Ages
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Religious Sites • Monuments & Statues
    Amannishahan Memorial Mausoleum image
Amannishahan was the Concubine of a Yarkand Khan and is buried in the general "Tombs of the Yarkand Khans" complex. She is memorable for having pulled together in one place some 340 Uigher folk songs, dances, and other music in a written format before it was lost to the ages. See more..
  10. 4.0 Abakh Hoja Tomb (158 reviews)
    - Beyond expectations- beautiful architecture
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites • Religious Sites
    Abakh Hoja Tomb image
The Apakh Hoja masoleum was amazing. At entrance at 10:30 am is an Uighur show, included in ticket. I easily took a cheap taxi here from my hotel in Kashgar. The show was a little touristy and there are areas that feel touristy BUT.. the actual mosque and masoleum architecture is amazing!!! It was built in 1640 and is the most magnificent example of Uighur Islamic architecture in the region. I spent about two hours wandering the complex and it wasn’t too crowded, which is also nice. Tip: I accidentally paid a price including another show at the end which was not necessary as there is the included show at beginning as well. See more..
  11. 4.0 Gaotai Ancient Homes (71 reviews)
    - Don't miss this if you are in Kashgar!
Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites
    Gaotai Ancient Homes image
This was my second visit to Kashgar, but the first time I visited the Gaotai Ancient Homes. On my previous visit, the government was busy tearing down this old section and replacing it with a "new old-town". Since then, they have realized the tourism benefit of the ancient town, so they are leaving it alone and even lighting it! These homes are over 600 years old. The streets are narrow and interesting. You will find small shops, antique stores and craftsmen scattered throughout the area. Be sure to visit the pottery craftsmen. You go into their shop, then up a rickety ladder to their work area. It is all very interesting! See more..
  12. 4.0 Ga Er Ancient City (36 reviews)
    - Love the old town district
    Historic Sites

Lots to see and do in the old district. We enjoyed the craftsmen displaying their skills which have been past on through centuries of generations. Interesting tasty street foods, and watching the locals in their daily lives. See more..
  13. 4.0 Abaheming's Tomb (26 reviews)
    - Interesting Tomb, Mosque and Madrassa
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Architectural Buildings
    Abaheming's Tomb image
Very nicely laid out place with excellent mausoleum in quite striking coloured tiles. Several stories about this place are available so do some research before hand. Some discussion of the only female emperor, a fragrant concubine and a whole five generation lineage resting here. Well worth the trip and a highlight of Kashgar. See more..
  14. 4.0 Handicraft Street (18 reviews)
    - Beautiful historic street
    Flea & Street Markets
    Handicraft Street image
The handicraft street is located within the 'rebuilt' old town of Kashgar. Yes, sadly, the architecture is no longer the original and there is a tacky sign stating "Old Town". There are ID checks going into and out of old town. However, the handicraft street is still full of locals and is extremely interesting to see. The shop keepers are generally all very friendly. You can still buy very authentic items, although, I am not sure if the prices are inflated - I believe the same item will be cheaper in the bazaar nearby. Food is just amazing in Kashgar - make sure you pick up some freshly made naan when you see them. See more..
  15. 4.0 Hasi Tomb (14 reviews)
    - Thristy Camel Tours
    Cemeteries
    Hasi Tomb image
The tomb was originally situated near the Tuman River. But in Yarkand Khanate period, it was moved to the present site. In 1988, the tomb was rebuilt again. On the eastern part of the Mazar is a domed tomb hall covered with green glazed tiles. People in Xinjiang were Buddhist before Islamic during of the 9th century ,the ancient capital city was Hanoy where Buddhism was the religion of people here , Buddhism influence still remains in the towns ancient Pagoda constructed here during of that period, located 3 km from kashgar city . Very nice architecture. Our guide told us the history and very interesting story of this place. It is also called the Fragrant Concubine Tomb. See more..
  17. 4.0 Mo'er Pagoda (5 reviews)
    - Worth a visit
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Architectural Buildings
Quiet and beautiful. It's not a common tourist spot where there are ticket stall, toilet, info board. There are just two ancient pagodas standing in the middle of the dessert. When strolling in the area you can witness the walls and bricks crumbling into sands. It's sad, it's surreal, but it's so true that makes you feel really connected to all the buddhist history you've known. Highly recommend. See more..
  18. 4.0 Tajike Herdsman Village (3 reviews)
    - Thristy Camel Tours
Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Historic Sites
    Tajike Herdsman Village image
Hiking information During the Muztagh Ata hike you need to ford a river that runs down from the high glacias and meanders through the lush green grasslands. As you approach, you can hear the rush of the water splashing and tumbling over the rocky river bed. In the morning, the river runs rapidly but is low enough for you to jump from stone to stone or wade to the other side. However, the summer days are hot and the brilliant sunshine quickly melts the snow and ice that cap the mountain, causing the river to swell and become tricky to cross in the afternoon! See more..
  19. 4.0 Telamukanli Glacier (3 reviews)
    - This is a weird,weird place
    Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Mountains
    Telamukanli Glacier image
You will drive through some stunning scenery to get here, somewhat reminiscent to me of mountains in southern Utah but just stunning. At the end you have a fairly steep climb of about 40 degrees to arrive a the edge of a cliff form where you can see the glacier. Once you catch your breath, that is, as you are well over 10,000 ft. Total climb is 30-60 minutes depending on your pace. But it is steep. What you will see is an entirely black glacial river slowly oozing down the mountains after cutting its way through ancient lava flows. These lava flows coat the ice in black volcanic dust which give the whole place a surreal, and otherworld look to it. If you are into nature, this is one variant on it you don't come across often at all. I suggest it if you can pace yourself and make the climb. Stunning pictures at the top. See more..
  20. 3.5 Id Kah Mosque (174 reviews)
    - Must See Landmark in Kashgar
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Religious Sites
    Id Kah Mosque image
The Id Kah Mosque is a famous landmark in Kashgar. It is located next one of the main entrances to the "Old Town/Ancient City" area. In front the Mosque is a very large public square area where people leisurely walk through and enjoy the surroundings. The Mosque is nicely maintained and is clean. Upon entering the Mosque (fee required on entrance for tourists), the grounds area is lovely - many tall trees providing nice shade from the sun. Inside the Mosque structure, the design is quite simple and the area is clean. While this Mosque is not as elaborate so others around the world, it is still a nice place to visit. This Mosque is still actively being used for services in the evening hours and weekends. Nice place to visit and enjoy the scenery. See more..

  22. 3.5 Tajike Museum (4 reviews)
    - No one knows about it: Corner of Tawuguzi Lu and Renmin Dong Lu
Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums
Since there actually few things to do in Kashgar, you might stroll over to see this small collection of Silk Road objects. Free entrance. Then continue on toward the Grand Bazaar and come back through the Old City toward the Mosque. It is on Tawuguzi Lu, just past the corner of Renmin Dong Lu. Get the English map at the airport, best local map I have had in China so far. See more..
  23. 3.5 Hajifu Cemetery (3 reviews)
    - 落ち着いた雰囲気
    Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Cemeteries
