- 3.5 Duhuang Ancient City Ruins (57 reviews)
-A pleasant hour ot two
Wednesday: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
I had not intended to visit but the 'old city'was in my free guide in the hotel so I thought I'd visit the old town. I pointed to the picture and the taxi took me right there....BUT it is not the 'old city' - it is a film set! The old houses are from five different regions in China and it is here that the 19th and 20th century soaps are filmed!! Once I got over my disappointment, it proved great fun..but not for too long. - 3.0 White Horse Pagoda of Dunhuang (28 reviews)
-Great place for a quiet picnic.
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Architectural Buildings • Monuments & Statues
A taxi should only cost 20 Kuai, but it really isn't that far out of town for a walk. The street is marked with an English sign, and you can see some of the rural aspects of life in Dunhuang, like mountains of corncobs drying in the sun. It's 15 Kuai to get in, and it's very peaceful. We enjoyed the sun and ate on one of the many benches around. One tourist arrived while we were there. Nice picnic location. See more..
- 3.5 Muta Temple (27 reviews)
-Ok climb
Religious Sites
Reached on 21st Sep afternoon abt 3pm. Paid RMB$13.50 to climb the temple. Nothing really interesting, the writings on the walls are brief. Climbing up to the top wasnt too diffcult. Not too high either. At the top was disappointed that the view was blocked by the protectice metal gauze. Not too nice for a paranoidic view. Short trip, looks much better from the outside than inside. Give a 3 because if its rich history See more..
- 3.5 Lanzhou Museum (18 reviews)
-Very interesting
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Speciality Museums
This very new museum is very attractive . The historical exhibition is very rich . It contains a lot of items found in various tombs in Gansu Province . The most important is the wonderful "Flying horse" , a little bronze statue representing a galloping horse with a swallow under its hoof . There is also a paleological section with some dinosaurs skeletons . The most remarkable is the "Mamenkisaurus" , a very huge sauropod of 100 million years ago . See more..
- 3.5 Lanzhou Xiaoxihu Park (18 reviews)
-Visit If You Have Time
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Parks
Lanzhou's Xiaoxihu Park is pretty much a typical Chinese park, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth the time. If you in the Qilihe District of Lanzhou, it's not hard to get to - Bus 139 goes straight to the entrance. Summer time and the Spring Festival are the best time to go - Summer time for the plants, and the Spring Festival for the lights. The Flying Horse of Wuwei sits at the entrance of the park. The lake itself is just average, but there are a couple of cafes and there is a small amusement park inside. There are not a lot of people in the park most of the time, so it is pretty peaceful. If you've got the time, visit! See more..

- 3.5 Mt. Xujia National Forest Park (6 reviews)
-A Nice Spot
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Mountains • Parks • Forests
Found this park just doing a random scan of my map app. Took a taxi to get here. 5RMB entrance fee. On a hill to the northwest of Lanzhou. Lots of trees, so shady & cool. There are some pavilions, shaded walkways and a small temple. At the top is a memorial of some kind. Great views of the city and a nice, shady area with some exercise equipment. Whatever fruit is growing on the trees is edible because I saw an older gentleman collecting in. I didn't try any myself. A very nice little park, well worth the 5 RMB fee. A short walk down the street from the ticket office takes you to the main road along the river, and the bus stop. There were a few different options, I took #107. See more..
- 3.5 Lanzhou Jincheng Bonsai Garden (6 reviews)
-Iconic
Wednesday: 7:00 AM - 6:00 PM Parks
This Mother & Child granite sculpture is another iconic symbol of Lanzhou. Our driver was adamant that we should at least visit the park and see it. We were glad we did as it was a beautiful piece and truly a symbol of the Chinese people’s persevering spirit. As usual, there were loads of visitors thronging the sculpture, wanting to take home a piece of the memory of the place! Be prepared to jostle with the crowds to catch the sculpture! See more..
- 3.5 Memorial of Eighth Route Army Office in Lanzhou (6 reviews)
Historic Sites • History Museums
See more..

Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Ancient Ruins
See more..

- 3.5 Hadapu Long March Memorial (2 reviews)
-A Red Army1935-1936 rest and supply station
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM History Museums
Founded in 1978-1979, this is a memorial to the long march and successes of the Red Army. Over the 1935-1936 period, Hadapu was used as a rest and supply station, including refueling, as it was sometimes referred to as a gas station. Since 1985, it is also referred to as “Gansu province patriotism education model base.” That is to say, it is a national patriotism education demonstration base. This memorial is very tourist friendly, as most signage is in Chinese and English. The Hadapu Memorial Hall for the Long March of the Red Army is situated in Xiajie Village, Hadapu Township, Dangchang County, at the foot of Minshan Mountain. It is at State Road 212 line, 35 km south from Dangchang and 35 kilometers away from Dingxi County. I rate it as “average,” and not a “must see” location. Stop if it is on your travel route, as it was for me. Otherwise, I’d seek other attractions. See more..

-Une belle nature....un peu trop organisée !
Historic Walking Areas
See more..

-Not a good road
Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM Religious Sites
One member of our group really wanted to go there. We got directions from our hotel and were warned about the bad road conditions. It was a snowy day (in mid-May) making visibility difficult and the potholes were filled, making it difficult to figure out how deep they were. We did 20 of the 35 km to get there and turned back as the road became really bad and was blocked. All was not lost as were came across a few herds of yaks and goats crossing the road and some nice scenery through the snow. The whole thing took nearly two hours. See more..

-A nice park to relax in, although not wahts it has been
Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Parks • Forests
This park is in the northeast of Zhangye and can easily be reached with a taxi for 4 RMB (or by walking in about 45 min from the centre of town). In the past it appears that it was a large, natural wetland. About one year ago it was "upgraded" to a large lake within a park planted with trees. A nice place to go jogging or have a relaxed walk away from the busy city and all the historic sites. See more..
