4.0Great Wall Museum of Jiayuguan(46 reviews) - Interesting and well done Wednesday: 8:30 AM - 6:30 PM Speciality Museums
This is now a part of the Jiayuguan pass area (not in the town where the map suggests.) When you buy a ticket for the fortress it gives you entry to the museum (as well as the West and East Great Wall areas.) The museum is a good introduction to the history of the wall from the construction to the military use. There is plenty of English to guide you through, although not for every single item displayed.See more..
3.5Lanzhou Museum(18 reviews) - Very interesting Wednesday: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM Speciality Museums
This very new museum is very attractive . The historical exhibition is very rich . It contains a lot of items found in various tombs in Gansu Province . The most important is the wonderful "Flying horse" , a little bronze statue representing a galloping horse with a swallow under its hoof . There is also a paleological section with some dinosaurs skeletons . The most remarkable is the "Mamenkisaurus" , a very huge sauropod of 100 million years ago .See more..
The only problem with this place is that to enter it you should stay for 30-60 minutes in front of the door. The exposition is rather interesting.See more..

This museum promises to be a wonderful world class exhibition when it opens. It may not open for another two years. However, a local successful business person has a private museum on the top floors of the antique market which is not too far from here. The preservation of Chinese culture is a personal interest of his. Interesting discoveries in very old jade and ceramic found in the area are exhibited. There are also some more modern paintings and calligraphy on display. If you are lucky and can speak Chinese, you may be able to have a conversation with the owner--a very interesting person.See more..
4.0Aili Museum(1 review) - Aili Museum An interesting Museum in Shandan Wednesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums Last month I was fortunate to visit the Aili Museum here in Shandan with a group of fellow New Zealanders who were visiting Shandan at the time. This Museum is very interesting and one can see many artefacts from different periods in China's history that formerly belonged to the late great New Zealander Rewi Alley, from porceline and brass figures, to amazing works of art such as tapestries. This Museum is definitely interesting and well worth a visit in Shandan.See more..
