   We went off Klondike Highway at Steward Crossing to experience the range of the Yukon territory and followed the Silver Trail to Mayo (pop. 250). We wanted to fill our Yukon Gold Explorer’s Passport (get it in the Visitor Center in Whitehorse!) with another stamp, so we looked for the Binet House Museum in Mayo. We did not only collect the stamp, but also enjoyed the displayed history of Mayo, which is typical for the whole Yukon Territory during the Gold Rush in the 1900´ s. A lot of historical photographs, artifacts and exhibits illustrate a thrilling era, when people explored an extreme wilderness and nature to make a living from gold. Mayo is located 32 miles off Klondike Highway (Hwy 2), an overnight stop is recommended, if you use an RV (if you don´t need power, stay at Five Mile Lake Campground!). See more..

   This is a fun stop. You see this red roofed log building with a moose rack over the door called Moose Creek Lodge. There are all sorts of quirky, whimsical things out front. Great photo ops. How can you not stop. For what appears to be a small building, there is a lot inside--a nice gift shop with books and gifts. Also a clean wash room but only for customers. So have a bowl of soup or grab some baked goods for the road or sit down and have a meal. They also have accommodations. What more can you want. See more..
