Museum ok. Don’t bother with the sailing!
We visited on a sunny day and there were lots of outside activities as well as the visit into the museum to see the ships. We also buy an extra ticket to sail on a boat. This was a disappointment. We all had to take part in rowing the boat but the trip lasted a very short time and the two young lads conducting the trip were not very inspiring. A total waste of money! The boat was rowed out into the harbour, sail risen and then the trip was over.

An insight into boat building and aquatic archeology.
The viking ship museum is probably best visited in the summer for the full experience as in the winter the outdoor exhibits are covered up and the boats are not on the water, however the museum is very informative. The remnants of 5 viking ships are displayed and the process of recovering and preserving the finds is really well explained and very interesting if you are feeling nerdy. If you want blood, gore and weaponry then this is probably not the museum for you but if you are feeling more Floki than Ragnar you will find it really interesting.
