Beautiful and tranquil

The Louisiana Museum of Modern Art collection focuses on contemporary works from 1945 to the present. Works by Pablo Picasso, Jean Dubuffet and Louise Bourgeois are part of the permanent exhibition at this white villa named Louise, after the first (and second and third) wife of the man who commissioned the building.

    The perfect day trip!
If you are in Copenhagen and looking to for a memorable day trip, definitely visit the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art! It's an easy 45 minute to 1 hour train ride from Copenhagen city center (no need to switch trains). The final destination of the train route is Helsingør and the stop for the Louisiana is Humlebaek. It is a 15 to 20 minute walk from the train station to the museum. You can purchase train tickets either at the station or with the DSB app which provides you with a mobile ticket. I would recommend taking the morning train and arriving when the museum opens so you have as much time as you need there. There is so much to see it can easily take the whole day to explore the museum and grounds. The restaurant is decent but is on the pricier side. If you are looking for a jam-packed day trip from Copenhagen, you can continue to take the train farther north until you reach Helsingør which is where Hamlet's Castle (Kronborg Castle) is. The castle closes at 5 PM so you could explore the Louisiana museum in the morning and then head up to the castle for the remainder of the day.

    Beautiful and tranquil
This was a definite highlight of our trip to Denmark. Well worth the train journey. The collection was a great mix from around the world and the sculpture park is beautiful. The favourites for me were the Henry Moor and Roy Lichtenstein sculptures. Stunning location and setting. The children’s wing has craft activities (free) and we made and painted clay sculptures which the kids thoroughly enjoyed. We ate lunch here and it was one of the best meals we had during our holiday. Yes it’s expensive, but it’s comparable to prices in Copenhagen and the food was very good quality. Simple snack boxes for the kids but the portion was well balanced and the kids were happy. Contrary to a review below the restaurant definitely does sell tap water, they just serve it in a recyclable cardboard carton. The only thing that could be improved is the time slot system. We followed instructions on the website and booked a time slot (11am) but when we arrived there was a huge queue of people all with a 11am or 11.30am time slot. In the end we didn’t get in until 11.45am whilst people with a 11.30am time slot got in at 11am which doesn’t make sense. They should sell fewer tickets for each slot or have someone walk down the queue and let those with an earlier time slot go first. But that’s a minor thing and it didn’t spoil our visit :-)
