A must-see in Northern Zealand

This historic castle was constructed on three islands and is surrounded by lake and beautiful gardens. Frederiksborg Castle has housed The Museum of National History since 1878. A tour through the museum's many beautiful rooms is an encounter with kings, queens, nobles, the bourgeois, events, and epochs, which have all shaped the country's history and development from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. The museum was founded by brewer J.C. Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg.

    A must-see in Northern Zealand
The Castle is situated in Hilleroed in Northern Zealand. Paid parking is available within a short walking distance. The original Castle was built by the Danish King Frederick II and later rebuilt and extended by his son, King Christian IV. The Castle houses The Museum of National History. The Museum was established by the brewer Jacobsen, founder of the Carlsberg Breweries, and The Carlsberg Foundation still runs the museum today. At present a special exhibition “The Faces of the Queen” is shown to celebrate the 80th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II. A large number of interesting exhibits are shown, such as the Queens original watercolors used as illustrations in Tolkiens “Lord of the Rings”. The Castle itself is of course also of great interest, especially the very beautiful Castle Chapel, which also houses the famous Compenius organ, and the Knight’s Chapel for the Orders of the Elephant.

Good day trip, combine with Kronborg Castle
From Copenhagen Main station buy an all day ticket - covers trains, buses, metros, about 150KR. Get train to Hellsingor and from there a 301 or 302 bus at station, bus takes about 3 minutes to castle entrance. Free lockers on site. No audio guides. Gardens are free. With castle and gardens and bus, probably spend about 2 hours there. Return to train station and get the train to Hillerod - one of the first platforms on your left to view Kronborg.
