Superb bastion
On a beautiful sunny afternoon we visited under near perfect conditions, seeing the great bastion at its gleaming best. What we are fortunate to admire today originates from the Knights Templar who constructed it on the remains of an old Moorish construct. It was great strolling around the voluminous rooms and crenulated roofs. From the latter splendid vistas of the city below and the surrounding beaches and coastline are thrilling. Emphasising what a pivotal strategic position it occupies. On the way in we saw a fine sculpture of Benet XIII - Papa Lluna, probably the most famous visitor and resident. After bolting to the Castle in 1417, he lived here till his death six years later.

A cool experience exploring a castle built/used by the Knights Templar.......
Located on a beautiful stretch of coastline between Barcelona and Valencia lies the town of Pensicola with it beautiful castle on the hill. It was a bit of a walk, but well worth trekking up the hill to explore inside, see the displays, look over the battlements and explore the walkways leading to various rooms. Knowing that the Knights had built the structure gave a different perception to me, like walking on the path of history.

Amazing castle, fantastic views, great value
An amazing castle, great setting and wonderful views. There is enough in English to help understand the history though most detailed information is in Spanish but a quick online search gives you the depth. Absolutely worth a visit and it's fantastic value compared to many tourist sites, under 9 years old are free, €5 per adult €3.50 for 9-16 year olds. Definitely worth it with lots of choices for a post-visit cervesa ?
