A place well worth a visit. We came there as a group of four and got our tickets for a guided tour in German. As there were no other tourists, and our knowledge of German ranged between satisfactory and nonexistent, our guide offered us a tour in English. She said this was her first time guiding in English - but it was really impossible to tell, as she was so good at it. Overall, the tour was diverse and engaging. The highlight of the tour was the gallery of abbots' portraits - many of them were painted by the same person and using the same model, which was a bit eerie, but certainly memorable. See more..

This was a side-trip for us, a bit off the main Autobahn road in the Austrian countryside along the river Mur, but well worth the extra drive. Somehow, the Cistercian Roman Catholic monks and priests built this amazing house of worship and lived there starting around 1333. Yes, around 1333, not a typo. The overall area could have housed a community of couple of hundred. The church, itself (free admission), is a magnificent, towering Gothic structure with an incredibly ornate Baroque interior, with fresco hints of proto or early Jugendstil. Tall, vertical windows (clear glass, not stained glass) admit sun from nearly all angles. The place is breathtaking in its splendour. There is a free, very clean rest room nearby, and just steps away is a restaurant - gast haus. A highly recommended experience, regardless of your religious orientation. See more..

Scholss Hollenegg is a castle complex in the Styria area of Austria. It is owned by Prince DI Prince Alfred of Liechtenstein. The castle itself is not open to the public. Locals say that the only time that the public is allowed in is for Sunday service in the chapel during the summer. The grounds are open to the public. In fact, the horse stables are now used as a community hall. In fact, it housed indoor portions of the Christmas market while I visited. The Christmas market was small; however, it seemed that the whole community was there - the locals knew each other. I enjoyed this market as most of the goods were definitely locally made. The public can walk around the castle grounds and get a feel for the magnificence and age of the castle. Since I love beautiful architecture, the walk was fascinating. The castle is surrounded by beautiful woods. Even the children were having fun playing on the paths and lawn of the structure. This is a great visit for someone who loves castles or just wants to walk around and enjoy the grounds. See more..

I was on a tour bus and had to slip away for a few minutes and then catch up to see this. It was very nice. The guide said something about it burning down in 1865 I think. So it's not that old but it's nice. See more..

Siamo stati attirati da fuori dalla strana architettura del palazzo, che dalla piazza principale Wiez attira l'attenzione.
Qui abbiamo scoperto questa perla di epoca presumibilmente basso-medievale, bellissimi affreschi alle pareti e dipinti, una chiesa antica e semplice.
